The local disposal guide

Will the city
take it?

Conroe runs one weekly cart service for garbage and recycling and a separate scheduled bulk collection once a month, both through the city's franchise hauler Frontier Waste Solutions. Bulk covers appliances, furniture and other oversized household items up to 8 cubic yards, it has to be booked at least two business days ahead, and no household waste rides with it. A refrigerator or any other appliance that still holds Freon only goes out once a licensed technician has removed the refrigerant and the certificate is taped to the front of the unit. Construction material, computers, televisions, tires, concrete and lumber are refused on that route, and the city points those loads to the Conroe and North Montgomery County Recycle Center or to the county recycling centers instead.

Couches, chairs and household furniture

Accepted with preparation

Furniture is part of the monthly bulk collection, which is scheduled rather than standing. The city allows up to 8 cubic yards of bulk and brush per customer, placed within 4 feet of the curb, and the load has to be booked at least two business days ahead with the hauler.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. City of Conroe residential customers on the utility billing account, using the once-a-month scheduled bulk service inside the published 8 cubic yard allowance. The city publishes no separate bulk fee.
When & how
Book the pickup through the Frontier Waste app, the website or 936-258-9035 at least two business days before your collection week, then put the items within 4 feet of the curb.
Get it ready
Keep household trash out of the bulk load, because the city refuses mixed loads, and keep construction material, tires, concrete, lumber, pallets and solid metal out as well. Dismantle anything that could hurt a crew member, and keep each piece inside the 50 pound handling limit where it applies to brush.

Get it ready
Keep the mattress dry and out of the garbage cart, and keep household trash, construction debris and metal items out of the same pile so the load is not refused.

Appliances and white goods

Special rules apply

Household appliances are inside the monthly bulk allowance, but a unit that still holds refrigerant is conditional: a licensed technician has to remove the Freon and the certificate has to be sealed in a plastic bag and taped to the front of the appliance before the crew will take it.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. City residential customers using the scheduled monthly bulk service, provided an appliance containing Freon arrives with a licensed technician's removal certificate taped to the front. The Precinct 1 recycle center is the alternate drop-off the city names.
When & how
Schedule the appliance at least two days before the service day, or take it to the Conroe and North Montgomery County Recycle Center.
Get it ready
Have the refrigerant removed and documented, empty and defrost the unit, secure or remove the doors, and leave the appliance within 4 feet of the curb with the certificate visible, because the city will not collect an uncertified Freon unit.

Televisions, computers and electronics

Not on the regular city route

Computers and televisions are named on the city's list of items that are not accepted in bulk or brush, and the city publishes no curbside electronics route. Its guidance is to contact the Montgomery County recycling centers and the Precinct 1 recycle center for those materials.

City cost & eligibility
No city electronics fee or acceptance list is published, so confirm the device and any charge with the Montgomery County recycling centers or the Conroe and North Montgomery County Recycle Center before loading a television or computer into the car.
When & how
Route the device through a county recycling center rather than the curbside programme, and confirm current hours and acceptance first because the city does not publish them.
Get it ready
Wipe personal data before handover, keep the device off the bulk pile and out of the carts, and keep batteries separate so they are handled as a separate stream.
Garbage and recycling frequently asked questions

Remodeling and construction debris

Not on the regular city route

Construction material, do it yourself debris, concrete, bricks, roofing and lumber are all refused on the bulk route, and the city puts the removal duty on the contractor or third party doing the work. There is no city construction collection.

City cost & eligibility
The city publishes no construction rate because it does not collect renovation material. The contractor or a third party has to remove and dispose of construction debris, and a private container or hauler quotes that work.
When & how
Arrange the removal with the contractor before the project starts, because there is no city collection day for this material.
Get it ready
Keep construction debris out of the bulk pile and out of the carts, and keep dirt, concrete, roofing and lumber with the project load rather than the household waste.
Garbage and recycling frequently asked questions

Exercise machines and weights

Special rules apply

Exercise equipment is named nowhere on the city's accepted or refused lists. A machine that fits the bulk definition could ride the monthly pickup, but solid metal items are refused, so a metal framed machine has to be confirmed first.

City cost & eligibility
No exercise equipment line or price is published. Call Frontier Waste on 936-258-9035 before the machine goes out and confirm whether it is accepted inside the 8 cubic yard bulk allowance or refused as a solid metal item.
When & how
Confirm with the hauler, then book the monthly bulk pickup at least two business days ahead if the machine is accepted.
Get it ready
Give the weight and dimensions when you call, remove the console and any battery pack so the electronics are handled separately, and break the frame down so two people can move it.
Garbage and recycling frequently asked questions

Household trash, carts and extra bags

Accepted with preparation

Garbage and recycling are collected once a week on the same service day by two different trucks, in 95 gallon carts that belong to the hauler. Trash must be bagged inside the cart, recycling must not be bagged, and extra garbage needs a city sticker on each bag.

City cost & eligibility
Collection is part of the city utility bill, extra service stickers are bought from the city utility department, and additional carts carry a fee that the city publishes on its Rates and Fees page, so confirm the current amounts with Utility Billing at 936-522-3170 or the hauler at 936-258-9035.
When & how
Set the carts out by 6:30 a.m. on the service day with the lids facing the street and the wheels towards the curb, and expect a one day delay for the rest of the week when New Year's Day, Thanksgiving or Christmas falls on a weekday.
Get it ready
Bag all garbage inside the gray cart, leave recycling loose because bags jam the sorting equipment, leave at least 4 feet of clearance from mailboxes, hydrants, vehicles and other obstacles, and keep the carts out of the front yard between collections.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

Bulk is monthly and always booked in advance

Bulk collection runs once a month and is a scheduled service, not a standing one. Book it through the Frontier Waste app, the website or 936-258-9035 at least two business days ahead, check the bulk and brush map for your collection week, and keep the load inside 8 cubic yards per customer. Bulk and brush go within 4 feet of the curb, and no household waste rides with the load.

Garbage and recycling frequently asked questions

Carts out by 6:30 a.m. with 4 feet of clearance

Garbage and recycling carts go out on the same service day but are emptied by different trucks, so placement matters: lids facing the street, wheels closest to the curb, at least 4 feet of clearance from mailboxes, fire hydrants, vehicles and other obstacles, and everything at the curb by 6:30 a.m. Carts are stored behind the front of the house or in the garage, never in the front yard, and they belong to the hauler rather than the household.

Garbage and recycling frequently asked questions

A Freon appliance needs the certificate taped to the front

A refrigerator, freezer, air conditioner or any other appliance that still contains refrigerant only goes out once a licensed technician has removed the Freon, and the city requires the certificate to be placed in a sealed plastic bag and taped to the front of the appliance. An uncertified unit is not ready for collection, and the same appliance can be taken to the Conroe and North Montgomery County Recycle Center instead.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Conroe households have two self-haul style routes and one scheduled curbside route. The curbside route is the monthly bulk and brush pickup, booked at least two business days ahead with Frontier Waste on 936-258-9035, limited to 8 cubic yards per customer and placed within 4 feet of the curb, with household waste, construction debris, tires, concrete, lumber, pallets, computers and televisions all refused. A Freon appliance only goes out with a licensed technician's removal certificate taped to the front. The drop-off route is the Conroe and North Montgomery County Recycle Center at 142 W. Wally Wilkerson Parkway, a joint City of Conroe and Montgomery County facility that requires sorted, clean material and is the site the city names for appliances as well as recyclables; its published hours come from a 2018 pamphlet, so confirm them on 936-703-0150 before driving. For televisions, computers and other refused items the city points to the Montgomery County recycling centers, and no local acceptance list for those has been verified here, so confirm before the trip. Recyclable household material that is sorted and clean before arrival, with the accepted item list published in the center's own pamphlet. The city's current FAQ names the site as where residents can take an appliance instead of using the bulk pickup.

Material must be sorted and clean on arrival, or sorted on site, and the pamphlet's item list governs what is accepted. The city does not publish an electronics acceptance list for the site, so a television or computer has to be confirmed before the trip.

Published in the 2018 pamphlet as Tuesday to Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 7 a.m. to noon, closed Sunday, Monday and county holidays. The pamphlet is dated, so confirm the current schedule on 936-703-0150.

The captured pamphlet, published May 30, 2018, lists no fee. Confirm the current charges with the center on 936-703-0150.

How does a couch leave a Conroe home?

On the monthly bulk collection, which has to be booked with Frontier Waste at least two business days ahead, and the load is capped at 8 cubic yards per customer. Furniture and other oversized household items are inside that allowance, but household trash, construction debris and solid metal are not.Official guidance

Will Conroe take a mattress on the bulk truck?

The city does not name mattresses on either its accepted list or its refusal list. The bulk service covers large items that do not fit the 95 gallon cart, up to 8 cubic yards, so book the pickup with Frontier Waste on 936-258-9035 and confirm the mattress is inside the allowance before it goes out.Official guidance

Can a refrigerator go out with Conroe bulk?

Only with the refrigerant removed first. The city requires a licensed technician to remove the Freon and to place a certificate in a sealed plastic bag taped to the front of the appliance, and the pickup is scheduled at least two days ahead. The other route the city names is the Conroe and North Montgomery County Recycle Center.Official guidance

Where does a Conroe television or computer go?

Not on the bulk truck: computers and televisions are on the city's list of items that bulk and brush collection will not take. The city directs residents to Montgomery County recycling centers and to the Conroe and North Montgomery County Recycle Center, so confirm the current accepted list and hours before travelling.Official guidance

Who collects garbage in Conroe?

Frontier Waste Solutions collects curbside garbage, recycling and the monthly bulk service under the city's franchise, and the service is billed through City of Conroe utility billing. Customer service is 936-258-9035 for the hauler and 936-522-3170, option 3, for carts and billing through the city.Official guidance

How far ahead do I book bulk pickup?

At least two business days. Bulk runs once a month and is not a standing service, so book through the Frontier Waste app, the website or 936-258-9035, check the bulk and brush map for your week, and keep the load within 8 cubic yards.Official guidance

Which holidays delay Conroe collection?
