Wipe personal data from computers and phones, keep units holding liquids or sludge out of the load because the collection refuses them, and bring the license and utility bill that the landfill requires from every resident. Batteries have their own published routes: alkaline batteries can go in the trash, rechargeable batteries go to Batteries Plus, Best Buy, Home Depot, Lowe's or Staples, car batteries go to Batteries Plus or an auto parts store for a credit, and batteries are also accepted at a household chemical collection event, while the landfill does not accept household or automotive batteries.

No charge. During a Trash Off event residents may make an unlimited number of free trips to the landfill, where the usual allowance is five free loads a year, and proof of residence is a current water bill together with a driver's license.

Apartments, mobile homes and townhomes that pay no curbside garbage rate are charged the commercial rate of 40 dollars per ton for waste and 22.50 dollars per ton for clean brush or wood, each with a 10 dollar minimum per trip, tires carry their own per tire charge, computers, printers and fax machines are taken from residential customers only, and the rest of the landfill rules still apply.
Most Grand Prairie residents never need a trip to the landfill, because appliances and furniture such as washers, refrigerators, sofas and chairs come off the curb on a free weekly bulky collection that is booked with Republic Services on 817-261-8812. The exceptions are what the city calls construction and demolition waste, which covers carpet, fencing and building material and has to go to the Grand Prairie Landfill on MacArthur Boulevard, where a household member delivering a residential load gets five free loads a year and pays the published charge on each later load. Electronics are free at the same landfill during normal hours, and a resident who has no utility bill can use the free electronics events at City Hall East instead. Household chemicals and paint go to a registration-only collection event at City Hall or to the Fort Worth collection center with a voucher, one visit a household each year, and mattresses, exercise machines and tires all need a call before they are moved because the published pages do not name them or contradict themselves about the conditions.
