The city accepts appliances without Freon on the bulky collection, which means a refrigerator, freezer or air conditioner has to have the refrigerant handled before it can go out.
City cost & eligibility
The city publishes no per item charge for the monthly brush and bulky collection, but it also states the appliance rule as appliances without Freon. Whether a charged unit can be collected after the refrigerant is removed, and who is expected to remove it, is not published, so confirm with the Sanitation Department at 956-583-2564 before the unit goes out.
When & how
Call the Sanitation Department before setting a refrigerator, freezer or air conditioner out, and place an accepted appliance in the bulky pile on the Friday to Sunday before your collection week.
Get it ready
Empty and defrost the unit, remove the doors where the crew asks, and keep it in the bulky pile rather than beside the trash container. Do not put a charged unit out until the city has confirmed how the refrigerant is handled.
Mission collects brush once a month and bulky items on the same route, and the city asks for bulky items to be placed in a separate pile from the brush. Brush means tree limbs and shrubbery no longer than ten feet and no more than eight inches in diameter, plus bagged leaves and lawn trimmings, while the bulky pile carries furniture, mattresses, appliances without Freon and other items too large for the container.
The brush and bulky calendar runs by collection week, and the city asks residents to set brush out on the Friday to Sunday before their week. Containers normally go out the night before the service day or by 6 a.m. on the day, with the lid shut and no extra bags beside the container, and the container needs three feet of clearance from fences, mailboxes, utility boxes and vehicles.
The city states that it collects only items originating from the home and no external waste, so material brought in from another property does not belong in the pile. Brush can be dropped free at the city site on South Conway with proof of residency, and landscapers and contractors are excluded from that site.

Arrange it
Set the bulky pile out separately from the brush on the Friday to Sunday before your collection week, with everything at the curb by 6 a.m. on the service day. The collection runs monthly.
Only material originating from the home is collected, appliances must be without Freon, electronics have no city route and are confirmed with the Sanitation Department, construction, demolition and remodeling debris, brick, concrete and dirt are named as not collected at the curb and go to the Residential Waste Drop-Off Service, and the container lid has to shut with no extra bags beside it.

Can I book if the delivery company did not take my old appliance?+
Yes. Dropcurb pickup is separate from buying or installing a replacement, so you can book removal on its own.
