Use the City's annual electronics drop-off event, or take electronics to the Salt Lake Valley Landfill at 6030 W. California Ave., which is open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and closed Sundays, New Year's Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
Get it ready
Remove personal data before the device leaves the house, keep electronics out of the garbage can, the recycling can and the bulky pile, and check with the City or the landfill for the current event date and any landfill charge.
Household garbage and anything outside the cans, hazardous materials such as paints, oil, solvents, batteries and gasoline, construction and demolition waste, bricks, broken concrete, dirt, rocks and railroad ties, items containing glass unless the glass is removed, business waste, and tires are all prohibited from the bulky and curbside routes.

Arrange it
Take the load to 6030 W. California Ave. (1300 S.) in Salt Lake City, open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and proceed to the scales for disposal loads, household hazardous waste and compost purchases.
Loads must be securely covered under Utah Code, and from January 1, 2026 a vehicle in violation is charged an additional fee equal to the disposal price. The hazardous waste location does not accept business waste, tires are for residential customers only and must be placed in the tire recycling pile, and solar panels and battery systems are not accepted.
West Valley City's self-haul route for material the curb refuses is the Salt Lake County Landfill at 6030 W. If a device cannot be erased or contains sensitive business information, arrange suitable data handling before giving it away.
