Keep the set dry and out of the trash cart, and keep it off the curb until a route is confirmed because the curbside program is a weekly cart collection rather than a bulky pile service.

Use the city curbside collection and appliance appointments
An Alexandria household in a detached home, duplex or small townhouse with weekly trash, recycling and yard waste and an appliance to collect.
Cost & conditions
$20 per appliance for the curbside collection appointment arranged through the Resource Recovery Division, with the weekly household collection funded by the Solid Waste User Fee, published in the city Fee Compendium as 500 dollars per year for residential refuse collection and billed twice a year on the real estate tax bill. Alexandria residents who are required users of the city service, which covers detached single family homes, duplexes and some townhouses with four or fewer units, with the collection day set by the refuse and recycle maps.

You can choose an offered pickup day around your replacement delivery. First check whether the retailer already includes old-mattress removal, and arrange who will bring it outside if needed.
