Mattresses are not named in the cleanup list or the special pickup list, so bedding has to be confirmed with Public Works.
City cost & eligibility
Neither the cleanup page nor the special pickup page names a mattress or box spring and no bedding charge is published, so confirm the item with Public Works on 540-382-1151 before it goes out.
When & how
Call 540-382-1151 first, then either put the set out during a cleanup window if it is accepted or schedule the special pickup for the window the town gives you.
Get it ready
Keep the set dry and whole, take the frame and headboard off because they are separate pieces, keep it out of the garbage and recycling carts, and keep it within the placement rules if the town confirms it for pickup.
Garbage is collected weekly and recycling every other week from the town supplied carts: one green garbage cart in 96 or 48 gallon sizes and one blue recycling cart in 96 or 65 gallon sizes. Everything goes out by 8 a.m. on the collection day, material may not exceed the contents of the carts, and anything placed outside a cart, including extra garbage or recycling, is not picked up. Carts should come back in by the end of the collection day, and hazardous household waste never goes in a cart.
During the Spring and Fall Cleanup windows residents put items outside at any time and crews come by over the following weeks. Items must sit within ten feet of the street pavement in piles separate from normal trash, brush has to be separated from the other material, and loose material goes in containers no larger than 32 gallons. During cleanup the town picks up tree and brush trimmings, old furniture, a maximum of two appliances and up to four tires per household, and the town asks residents to move personal property they do not intend to have hauled away back from the street.
