Get it ready
Remove the batteries before the item goes out, keep lithium-ion batteries out of both the trash and the recycling Toter, and leave the screen intact because the schedule prices flat screen, projection and picture tube sets by size. Alkaline batteries are the only battery type the bulk schedule lists, and lithium-ion batteries are refused.
The town contracts with Patriot Disposal Services for curbside trash, recycling and yard waste at single family homes, townhomes and some businesses inside the corporate limits, and service starts without an account. Some addresses that carry a Leesburg mailing address sit outside the corporate limits and are served by a homeowners association or a permitted county hauler instead, so confirm at 703-771-2790 before you count on a town pickup.
Each routed household is issued a black trash Toter and a blue recycling Toter with wheels and attached lids, 96 gallon toters for single family homes and 64 gallon toters for townhomes. Trash may go to the curb after 4:00 p.m. the day before pickup and before 4:00 a.m. on the collection day, containers come back in within 12 hours of collection, and empty containers are stored behind the front line of the building.
Furniture, appliances, mattresses and other items that will not fit in a plastic bag or a can are never collected on a regular trash day, and the town does not treat an item left out without a request as a missed pickup. Call or email Patriot Disposal Services to book the pickup, then keep the pile separate from the trash, the recycling and the yard waste so nothing gets left behind.
Collection staff inspect recycling bins in targeted neighborhoods and tag a bin that holds batteries, needles, hazardous waste, food or yard waste, plastic bags and film, bagged recyclables, textiles, scrap metal or construction debris. A tagged bin is left behind, and the town returns within two business days once the contamination is removed, so keep batteries, electronics and building material out of the recycling Toter.
