Furniture that will not fit in the cart leaves on the monthly brush and bulk week. The city names furniture, tables and chairs as bulk waste, so upholstered pieces such as a couch or sofa travel on that route rather than with the weekly cart.
A mattress will not fit in the trash cart, so it falls under the city's bulk definition and leaves on the monthly brush and bulk week. The city's published bulk exclusion list covers glass and porcelain items, carpeting, building debris, tires, chemicals and bags rather than bedding, and the convenience center names beds among the bulky items it takes from residents.
Appliances are named as bulk items that leave on the brush and bulk week, and the city asks that white goods be kept out of the brush and bulk pile. A unit that holds refrigerant is the exception: the city sends refrigerators, air conditioners and freezers to the Region 2000 Livestock Road Regional Landfill because the Concord Turnpike Convenience Center will not take Freon items.
Electronics do not belong in the trash cart or a recycling bin. Lynchburg runs a free household hazardous waste and electronics collection day at the Concord Turnpike Convenience Center, where televisions, monitors, computers, printers, keyboards and anything else with a cord are accepted from Lynchburg and Campbell County residents. The city's household hazardous waste page describes the day as an annual service in April, while the city's prepaid blue bag page says the city holds a hazardous waste collection day three times each year in April, June and October, so confirm the next date with Citizens First on 434-856-2489.
Building material is written out of the city routes kept here. Construction, remodeling and demolition debris such as carpet, wood, cabinets, concrete, brick, shingles, sheetrock, pipe and glass is refused at the curb and prohibited at the Concord Turnpike Convenience Center, and the city directs it to the Region 2000 Livestock Road Regional Landfill in Rustburg.
A treadmill or weight machine will not fit in the trash cart, so it falls inside the city's general bulk definition, but the pages name furniture, boxes, appliances and lamps as examples and never name exercise equipment. The machine stays a set out to confirm with Public Works rather than a published acceptance.
