No charge. City of Suffolk residential addresses using the city issued can service, with the appliance inside the twelve special pick-ups a service year and within the twelve cubic yard pile limit.
When & how
Set the appliance beside the can no earlier than twenty four hours before the regular collection day, and report it through the missed pick-up form or on 757-514-7630 if it is still there twenty four hours after the scheduled date.
Get it ready
Empty and clean the unit, secure the doors and cords, keep it out of the can itself, and keep anything that is not part of the pile, including household trash bags, away from the collection point.
Refuse is collected weekly and residents place disposable material in the city issued curbside can. Under the SPSA SORT system that began on July 1, 2026, trash and recyclable material may go together in either the green trash can or the blue recycling can, and the sorting happens at the authority's regional facility. The service is billed twice each year on the real estate tax bill, can repairs and missed collections are reported through the city forms or on 757-514-7630, and the refuse holiday calendar shows Veterans Day as the day with no trash collection.
Special pick-up is a pile beside the can, not an appointment
Bulky material does not need to be scheduled. Everything goes beside the can no earlier than twenty four hours before the regular collection day, any item placed outside the can counts as a special collection, and household trash bags are not collected as special pick-up. Piles are capped at twelve cubic yards, about six feet by six feet by nine feet, tree limbs have to be under six feet long and no more than twenty four inches in diameter, and a household gets up to twelve special pick-ups a service year at no charge from July 1 to June 30.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

City of Suffolk residents scheduling an oversized pile through the Sanitation Office on 514-7630, with payment in person at a City Treasurer's office, online or by mail.
Arrange it
Call the Sanitation Office on 514-7630 to arrange the oversized pile, pay in advance at least forty eight hours before the collection day, and put the pile out no earlier than twenty four hours before that day.
The charge is paid in advance and covers the pile over the limit, additional bulk collections have to be scheduled through the Sanitation Office, household trash bags are still not collected as special pick-up, and the standard free allowance already covers twelve piles a service year.

Yes. Dropcurb pickup is separate from buying or installing a replacement, so you can book removal on its own. If your new delivery is still ahead, confirm the retailer’s haul-away arrangements before booking a separate pickup.
