Book the unwanted bags and boxes left after packing. Choose an available pickup day before you hand back the keys, and arrange to have them outside.
You do not need a whole house of junk. Select the bags, boxes and larger items you actually have. Your combined price is shown online.

A few simple choices turn a mixed pile into a clear booking. No need to estimate how much of a truck it might fill.
Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.
Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.
Add the actual larger item alongside your bags and boxes, such as a sofa, chair or mattress. It has its own price and preparation. Keep construction materials and items needing special handling out of ordinary household bags.

Furniture is collected through the household bulk service, which takes two large items a collection and runs three times a year by appointment.
A mattress is named in the city's allowable bulk list, so it goes out through the same appointment with the two item limit.
Refrigerators and washers or dryers are allowable bulk items, and the city also runs a white goods recycling programme.
Computers, monitors and small devices are collected at the free-standing computer recycling events the city joins five times a year, and flat screen monitors, desktop and laptop computers and CPUs are also excluded from the coupon requirement at the James City County convenience centres, so those three can be dropped off free during the centres' published hours.
Televisions are on the unacceptable list for the chemical and computer events, and the city publishes no television route, so the item has to be confirmed.
Remodeling and building materials are refused by the household bulk service and go to the Jolly Pond convenience center on a coupon or card basis.
Yard debris rides the garbage collection day in bags or bundles, and other large household items go through the three times a year bulk appointment.
The handoff matters
The garbage and recycling carts go to the curb before 7 a.m. on the collection day, or the evening before, with the lids facing the street, and come back in after collection. Carts stay three feet apart and five feet from vehicles, trees, mailboxes, poles and fences, and go side by side rather than front to back.
