Appliances are barred from the city cart. The county takes large appliances at the landfill citizens' center with the doors removed from refrigerators and freezers, the ward cleanup day takes them once a year, and Winchester Scrap Metal buys them as scrap.

When & how
Take the appliance to the landfill citizens' center at 146 Landfill Road during its posted hours, wait for the ward's annual cleanup day, or sell the unit to Winchester Scrap Metal on Martinsburg Pike during its weekday and Saturday morning hours.
Get it ready
Remove the doors from a refrigerator or freezer before the drop off, drain fluids from lawn equipment, keep the appliance out of the city cart, and keep refrigerant units, propane tanks and other sealed units away from the general trash pile.
A large item collection is only for an address that receives city collection, and the pickup has to be arranged before the item goes out. Give the address and the items on the request, put the pieces at the curb by 6 a.m. on the collection day the city assigns, keep them out of the sidewalk, street, mailbox and driveway, and leave the old cart alone because it belongs to the address rather than the household.
Register ahead of the ward's cleanup day, because registration closes at 11:59 p.m. the day before. Put the items at the curb by 6 a.m. and no more than 24 hours early, keep them clear of the sidewalk, street, mailbox and driveway, and expect the load to be collected over several days by different trucks, with anything still out after two weeks reported on (540) 773-1340. The regular trash, recycling and yard waste carts are not part of the cleanup pile.
Appliances, furniture, lumber, large items, tires, construction debris and yard waste are prohibited in the city cart, and hazardous material, building waste, industrial waste, automobiles and automotive parts are not collected by the city at all. Paint, electronics, batteries and chemicals go to the county landfill convenience center on its published collection days, yard waste goes out separately on Fridays, and construction material and tires go to the regional landfill where they are weighed and charged.

Schedule a large item collection with the city
A Winchester household that receives city garbage and refuse collection and has furniture, a mattress, an appliance or another item too large for the city supplied cart.

From $20 for for a small pickup truck load of items under the City's large item collection article, with other applicable fees such as an electronic disposal fee added, and the current amount confirmed when the pickup is arranged. Available only to a customer who receives garbage and refuse collection from the City of Winchester.
Arrange it
Ask for the pickup before the item goes out, using the city's large item collection form or the Public Works Division, give the address and the items to be taken, and set them at the curb by 6 a.m. on the day the city assigns. The form offers Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, excluding holiday weeks.
The service is only for addresses that receive city collection, the items have to be at the curb and reachable by the crew, electronics carry their own disposal charge on top of the load amount, and hazardous material, tires, building waste and yard waste are outside the service and go on their own published route.

Arrange it
Register before 11:59 p.m. the day before the ward's cleanup day, then put the items at the curb by 6 a.m. and no more than 24 hours ahead, and leave them there while different trucks work through the load over the following days.
