Choose by the type of equipment. A brand name does not mean a different item, but a walking pad and a full treadmill do.
Treadmill, walking pad or commercial model?
Household treadmill includes folding home models with a tall console. Choose Walking pad for a compact under-desk model, or Commercial treadmill for a large gym machine. All equipment opens those choices.
An exercise bike, elliptical or rower
Spin, upright, recumbent and air bikes all use Exercise bike, including Peloton and other brands. One elliptical includes its connected base, handles and pedals. Rowing machines and Pilates reformers have their own choices.
Weights, racks and benches
Add together the pounds of loose dumbbells, kettlebells, plates and barbells. Free weights are priced in 10 lb units, rounding the combined weight up. For example, 25 lb uses three units. Add a stand, rack or bench separately if it is going too.

Exercise equipment is not named on any Bothell list, so a treadmill or weight machine has to be confirmed as a bulky item before it goes out.
City cost & eligibility
The city names sofas, mattresses and large appliances as bulky examples but not exercise equipment, and it publishes no item list beyond those examples, so confirm with Recology at (425) 453-0220 whether the machine can use one of the two free bulky pickups.
When & how
Call Recology at (425) 453-0220 before booking, and use one of the two annual bulky item pickups only if the machine is confirmed as an acceptable bulky item.
Get it ready
Strip the console and any loose weights so the frame is as light as possible, fold the deck where the manufacturer allows it, and keep the machine out of the garbage, recycling and compost carts while the booking is arranged.
Recology collects garbage, recycling and organics for every City of Bothell customer, and the city's own rules are mostly about preparation. Recyclables have to be empty, clean and dry, with jars and bottles rinsed and the blue cart lid closed so paper stays dry, and nothing may be bagged because loose plastic bags jam the sorting machinery. The compost cart takes meat, bones and shells, dairy and eggs, fruit and vegetable scraps with the stickers taken off, spoiled leftovers, food soiled paper and napkins, yard trimmings and untreated wood, while pet waste and glass must never go in. Service days come from the city map or the Recology calendar, and a missed collection is reported to the city and to Recology on (425) 453-0220 within 24 hours.
Two bulky pickups a year are built into the service
The kerbside answer for anything that will not fit a cart is a booked bulky item pickup, and the city has included two of them a year at no extra cost since July 1, 2025. Recology's scheduling form is the booking route, and the examples the city gives are the three items this guide is asked about most often: sofas, mattresses and large appliances. A household that would rather haul its own material can use the voucher route instead, and a household that still has the item after two bookings has to wait for the next year or use a voucher or a special item pickup.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

Will you dismantle my treadmill or carry it out of the basement?+
Dropcurb pickup starts outside. Arrange indoor carrying, stairs and any dismantling needed to get your equipment out before pickup. Check the moving instructions for your exact model and arrange suitable help. We load and haul away the equipment from an accessible outdoor spot.
Which option covers a Peloton, spin bike or recumbent bike?+
Choose Exercise bike for one stationary bike, including spin, upright, recumbent and air bikes. Peloton and other brands use the same stationary-bike choice. A treadmill, walking pad and outdoor bicycle are different items, so select their matching options.
How do I book free weights, a weight rack or a bench?+
Enter the combined weight in pounds for your dumbbells, kettlebells, plates and barbells. Booking rounds that total up to the next 10 lb unit: 25 lb uses three units. Stands, racks and benches are separate items and do not include the loose weights. Add each one that is going.
Will Bothell take a treadmill?+
No Bothell page names exercise equipment, so the item has to be confirmed rather than assumed. Who collects Bothell garbage and recycling?+
Recology King County provides garbage, recycling and organics collection to all City of Bothell customers under the city contract, with billing and account management moving to a new Recology customer portal from February 2026.
