A clear count. An exact price.

Count the bags and boxes, not everything inside.

A few simple choices turn a mixed pile into a clear booking. No need to estimate how much of a truck it might fill.

Filled bags and boxes

Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.

Empty cardboard and containers

Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.

Furniture and other larger items

Add the actual larger item alongside your bags and boxes, such as a sofa, chair or mattress. It has its own price and preparation. Keep construction materials and items needing special handling out of ordinary household bags.

City cost & eligibility

Appliances and white goods

Accepted with preparation

Large appliances are named on the bulky item list, and the city's vouchers pay towards recycling a refrigerant appliance at the Shoreline transfer station while non-refrigerant appliances recycle there free.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. City of Bothell residential customers, through one of the two free bulky item pickups each year; the recycling voucher programme provides a thirty dollar credit towards self hauled disposal of refrigerant type appliances at the Shoreline Transfer Station, and non-refrigerant appliances can be recycled there at no fee.
When & how
Book a bulky item pickup with Recology for a large appliance, or request a recycling voucher and take the unit to the Shoreline Recycling and Transfer Station during its published hours.
Get it ready
Empty and clean the unit, secure or remove the doors, keep it upright for transport, and note whether it holds refrigerant because that decides between the voucher route and the free non-refrigerant recycling at Shoreline.

Televisions

Special rules apply

A television smaller than two feet in any direction and under sixty pounds can be booked on a Recology special item pickup, and anything larger goes to the free E-Cycle Washington programme.

City cost & eligibility
The city publishes the size and weight boundary and names E-Cycle Washington as a free programme for Washington residents, but it publishes no charge for the Recology special item pickup itself, so confirm the pickup fee with Recology at (425) 453-0220 or use the free E-Cycle drop-off.
When & how
If the set is smaller than 2 feet in any direction and under 60 pounds, schedule a special item recycling pickup with Recology. Otherwise use E-Cycle Washington, which is free for Washington residents, and find a drop-off location at ecyclewa.org.
Get it ready
Measure the set first, because the two foot and 60 pound boundary decides the route. Wipe anything that stores data, keep the screen whole, and never put a television in the garbage, recycling or compost cart.

Computers and small electronics

Special rules apply

Small appliances and electronics up to two feet in each direction are eligible for a special item pickup and for drop-off at the Recology Store, while larger items go to E-Cycle Washington.

City cost & eligibility
The city lists small appliances and electronics among the special item curbside pickups but publishes no fee for that service, and it names E-Cycle Washington as free for larger items, so confirm the pickup charge with Recology at (425) 453-0220 before booking.
When & how
Schedule a special item pickup with Recology for devices up to 2 feet by 2 feet by 2 feet, drop small appliances under 2 feet at the Recology Store, or take larger e-waste to an E-Cycle Washington location listed at ecyclewa.org.
Get it ready
Wipe stored data from computers and drives, keep power supplies and cables with the device, keep household batteries separate because they have their own pickup and drop-off route with taped terminals, and keep electronics out of all three curbside carts.

Construction and remodeling material

Special rules apply

No curbside construction route is published, but clean wood is one of the materials the city's thirty dollar recycling vouchers cover at the Shoreline transfer station, and concrete washout has its own code rules.

City cost & eligibility
The city names clean wood under the voucher programme and sets concrete washout controls in the municipal code, but it publishes no construction debris drop-off rate and no curbside route, so confirm the material and the cost with the city at 425-806-6100 or at the transfer station before a project load is moved.
When & how
Request a recycling voucher and take clean wood to the Shoreline Recycling and Transfer Station, or call the city and the station about anything else, and never wash concrete or cement into a storm drain.
Get it ready
Keep concrete washout at least 50 feet from any storm drain, open ditch or water body in a lined pit or bermed area, let it set and break it up before disposal, and keep paint, chemicals and treated material out of any wood load headed for recycling.

Exercise equipment

Special rules apply

Exercise equipment is not named on any Bothell list, so a treadmill or weight machine has to be confirmed as a bulky item before it goes out.

City cost & eligibility
The city names sofas, mattresses and large appliances as bulky examples but not exercise equipment, and it publishes no item list beyond those examples, so confirm with Recology at (425) 453-0220 whether the machine can use one of the two free bulky pickups.
When & how
Call Recology at (425) 453-0220 before booking, and use one of the two annual bulky item pickups only if the machine is confirmed as an acceptable bulky item.
Get it ready
Strip the console and any loose weights so the frame is as light as possible, fold the deck where the manufacturer allows it, and keep the machine out of the garbage, recycling and compost carts while the booking is arranged.

Bulky items and household cleanouts

Accepted with preparation

City cost & eligibility
No charge. City of Bothell residential customers of Recology, for up to two bulky item pickups per year at no extra cost since July 1, 2025, covering items such as sofas, mattresses and large appliances that do not fit in the curbside carts.
When & how
Use Recology's bulky item pickup scheduling form to book one of the two annual pickups, then set the items out as the booking instructions direct.
Get it ready
Keep bulk items out of all three carts, book rather than setting items out unannounced, and route anything the bulky service will not take to the special item pickup, the recycling voucher programme, E-Cycle Washington or the Wastemobile depending on the material.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

Three carts, and recycling stays loose

Recology collects garbage, recycling and organics for every City of Bothell customer, and the city's own rules are mostly about preparation. Recyclables have to be empty, clean and dry, with jars and bottles rinsed and the blue cart lid closed so paper stays dry, and nothing may be bagged because loose plastic bags jam the sorting machinery. The compost cart takes meat, bones and shells, dairy and eggs, fruit and vegetable scraps with the stickers taken off, spoiled leftovers, food soiled paper and napkins, yard trimmings and untreated wood, while pet waste and glass must never go in. Service days come from the city map or the Recology calendar, and a missed collection is reported to the city and to Recology on (425) 453-0220 within 24 hours.

Two bulky pickups a year are built into the service

The kerbside answer for anything that will not fit a cart is a booked bulky item pickup, and the city has included two of them a year at no extra cost since July 1, 2025. Recology's scheduling form is the booking route, and the examples the city gives are the three items this guide is asked about most often: sofas, mattresses and large appliances. A household that would rather haul its own material can use the voucher route instead, and a household that still has the item after two bookings has to wait for the next year or use a voucher or a special item pickup.

Vouchers, drop-offs and the hazardous waste mobile

The city issues two vouchers worth thirty dollars each per household per year towards recycling CFC appliances, clean wood, yard waste, mattresses and box springs at the Shoreline Recycling and Transfer Station at 2300 N 165th St., which opens Monday to Friday 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and weekends 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Vouchers are requested online or collected at the Recology Store, must be requested by November 1 and used by November 30, and any charge above the voucher value is the resident's to pay. Much of the rest of the special material is also handled at that station: rigid styrofoam blocks, clothing and other textiles, and plastic film are accepted there free, although garbage bags and plastic seal bags are prohibited. Small electronics, small appliances under 2 feet, batteries, oils, styrofoam and textiles can also be booked as a special item pickup, larger e-waste goes to the free E-Cycle Washington programme, paint goes to PaintCare drop-offs, and household chemicals go to the King County Wastemobile when it visits the UW Bothell campus at 18115 Campus Way NE from 10 am to 5 pm on its published dates.

Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Bulk junk removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Bothell.

How much does bulk junk removal cost in Bothell?

A trash bag is $59 as the first item and $10 additional. A filled household box is $59 as the first item. Add your actual items and quantities to see the combined price before booking. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; any applicable sales tax is shown before payment.

Can you pick up bags of junk today?

Book by 2pm in the pickup address’s local time for same-day pickup. Available dates appear at checkout. Have the booked bags and boxes outside and accessible according to your confirmation. You receive pickup updates and completion photos; the booking is for a day rather than an exact arrival time.

Do I count every object inside a bag or box?

No. Count the filled bags or boxes using the matching choice. Books and media go in Filled household box; clothes, bedding and shoes go in Bag of clothes & bedding; packed toys have a Box of toys choice. Empty cardboard is separate, with individual empty boxes and bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Heavy, oversized or unusual contents need a photo review before booking.

Can you pick up a small loose pile of household junk?

Yes. Estimate how many trash bags the small household pile would fill, and bag or box as much as possible. Select furniture and other larger items separately. There is no extra charge just because the pile is loose. Send a photo first if the count or contents are unclear. A household Dumpster Bag choice does not accept construction debris.

Can I book bags, boxes and furniture together?

Yes. Select the bags and boxes, then add each larger item using its own catalog choice. The booking shows one combined price for the selected items. Move everything to an accessible outdoor spot before pickup; indoor carrying and sorting are not included. Keep anything you want to retain apart from the booked items and identify what goes in your photos and notes.

Will Bothell collect a couch?

Yes, through a bulky item pickup booked with Recology, which is the route the city names for items that do not fit in the carts, including sofas, mattresses and large appliances. Since July 1, 2025 a residential customer may request up to two bulky item pickups per year at no extra cost, so a couch uses one of the two bookings for that year.Official guidance

How does a mattress leave a Bothell home?

One of the two free bulky item pickups each household may book a year with Recology will take it from the kerb, because the city names mattresses among the items that do not fit in the carts. A household that would rather haul it can request one of the two thirty dollar recycling vouchers the city issues each year, which cover mattresses and box springs at the Shoreline Recycling and Transfer Station, available from January 1 to November 30 with any cost above the voucher value paid by the resident.Official guidance

How does a Bothell appliance get recycled?

A large appliance counts as a bulky item that will not fit in the carts, so it can go out on one of the two free pickups a household may book each year with Recology. The city also issues two thirty dollar recycling vouchers a year towards self hauled disposal of refrigerant type appliances at the Shoreline Transfer Station, and non-refrigerant appliances can be recycled at that station for no fee, with any cost above the voucher value paid by the resident.Official guidance

Where does a television go in Bothell?

The size decides. If the set is smaller than 2 feet in any direction and under 60 pounds, schedule a special item recycling pickup from Recology. Anything larger goes through E-Cycle Washington, which the city describes as a free programme for Washington residents with drop-off locations listed at ecyclewa.org. No fee is published for the Recology pickup, so confirm it at (425) 453-0220 before the set is moved.Official guidance

Where do Bothell computers and small electronics go?

Devices up to 2 feet by 2 feet by 2 feet can be scheduled on a Recology special item pickup, and the same rule of smaller than 2 feet in any direction with a 60 pound limit applies to electronics booked through the e-waste route, while the Recology Store takes small appliances under 2 feet for drop-off. Anything larger goes to E-Cycle Washington, which the city describes as a free programme for Washington residents. No pickup fee is published, so confirm it with Recology.Official guidance

Will Bothell take construction debris?

No curbside route is published. Clean wood is one of the materials the city's thirty dollar recycling vouchers cover at the Shoreline Recycling and Transfer Station, and concrete is handled under the municipal code's storm drain rules, which prohibit discharging concrete, cement, gravel, silt or sediment and require washout areas at least 50 feet from any storm drain, ditch or water body with a lined pit or berm. Confirm anything else with the city or the transfer station before hauling it.Official guidance

Will Bothell take a treadmill?

No Bothell page names exercise equipment, so the item has to be confirmed rather than assumed. The bulky pickup route covers items that do not fit in the carts and names sofas, mattresses and large appliances as examples, with two free pickups a year since July 1, 2025, so call Recology at (425) 453-0220 to ask whether a treadmill or weight machine qualifies.Official guidance

How many bulky pickups does a Bothell home get?

Two a year at no extra cost. The city says that beginning July 1, 2025 residential customers may request up to two bulky item pickups per year through Recology, using the bulky item scheduling form, for items that do not fit in the curbside carts such as sofas, mattresses and large appliances. Anything the bulky service will not take still has a route, through the special item pickup, the thirty dollar recycling vouchers, E-Cycle Washington or the Wastemobile.Official guidance

Who collects Bothell garbage and recycling?

Recology King County provides garbage, recycling and organics collection to all City of Bothell customers under the city contract, with billing and account management moving to a new Recology customer portal from February 2026. Recyclables go in the blue cart empty, clean and dry and never bagged, organics go in the compost cart with stickers off and no pet waste or glass, and missed collections are reported to the city and to Recology on (425) 453-0220 within 24 hours or by email to bothell@recology.com.Official guidance

How many bulky item pickups does Bothell include?

Two a year at no extra cost since July 1, 2025. A residential customer books them with Recology through the bulky item scheduling form, and they cover items that do not fit in the curbside carts, with sofas, mattresses and large appliances named as examples. A household with more material still has the voucher route, the special item pickup and the county drop-offs rather than unlimited kerbside collection.Official guidance
