Book the unwanted bags and boxes left after packing. Choose an available pickup day before you hand back the keys, and arrange to have them outside.

A few simple choices turn a mixed pile into a clear booking. No need to estimate how much of a truck it might fill.
Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.
Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.
Add the actual larger item alongside your bags and boxes, such as a sofa, chair or mattress. It has its own price and preparation. Keep construction materials and items needing special handling out of ordinary household bags.

Once a year the city runs a curbside cleanup for regular residential cart customers that takes up to one yard of material and up to two larger items, with no fee published for the event.
A couch, sofa or large chair leaves the curb either on the annual city cleanup as one of the two large items or on a hauler special arrangement pickup.
A mattress is named both on the hauler's special arrangement list and in the two large items the annual city cleanup takes, and it is accepted as garbage at a county transfer station.
A large appliance goes out by hauler special arrangement or on the city cleanup day, while a refrigerant appliance cannot go to a county transfer station at all.
Tires go to a county transfer station, where five passenger car or pickup truck tires are taken per customer per day at the regular garbage rate.
The handoff matters
Bundle, box or bag the material and set it where the regular carts go by 6 a.m. on the cleanup day, with no more than one yard of loose material weighing 65 pounds or less and no more than two larger items such as a mattress, a sofa, a large chair or a lawnmower without gas or oil. Large items have to sit at a public street where a large truck can reach them, and the city recommends setting items out the night before.
