Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.
Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.
Add the actual larger item alongside your bags and boxes, such as a sofa, chair or mattress. It has its own price and preparation. Keep construction materials and items needing special handling out of ordinary household bags.

A bulky item is a booked collection rather than a cart load. In the Waste Management service area of south Everett, mattresses, appliances, console televisions and furniture are picked up by special arrangement when the customer calls, and the price varies by item. Rubatino, which serves most Everett addresses, publishes garbage, recycling and food and yard waste collection plus drop box and roll off containers for large volumes, so an oversized item there is quoted rather than set out.
A sofa, sectional or dresser does not fit the weekly cart. In the Waste Management service area it is one of the items collected as a booked bulky item, and any Everett address can also take furniture to a Snohomish County transfer station, where the load is charged as garbage by weight with a minimum for the first 360 pounds.
A washer, dryer, stove, water heater, dishwasher with a metal housing or microwave is a household appliance that the county recycling areas take at no charge for residents, provided the unit is free of garbage. Units holding refrigerant are refused there: refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, heat pumps and water coolers go to a scrap metal or appliance dealer instead, and the county lists several of them.

The city of Everett does not run garbage, recycling or yard waste collection, so the route depends on the address. Rubatino Refuse Removal serves most of the city limits, including zip codes 98201, 98203, 98204 and part of 98208, on 425-259-0044. Waste Management serves south Everett, described as south of 112th Street SE, Eastmont and Silver Lake including the 75th Street overpass, on 1-800-592-9995. Snohomish County Solid Waste answers the rest on 425-388-3425.
