Couch & furniture removal in EverettCity collection A sofa, sectional or dresser does not fit the weekly cart. In the Waste Management service area it is one of the items collected as a booked bulky item, and any Everett address can also take furniture to a Snohomish County transfer station, where the load is charged as garbage by weight with a minimum for the first 360 pounds. Waste Management quotes furniture as a varying bulky item and the county station bills a self hauled load by weight, so the amount depends on the item and the route rather than on a published city rate.

Mattress & bed removal in EverettCity collection Mattresses and covered springs are not part of curbside recycling. Snohomish County accepts them at its transfer stations as garbage, and it names two mattress recyclers as the alternative, Arlington Recycle Warehouse for Everett and MCS Recycle in Maltby. In the Waste Management service area a mattress can also be booked as a bulky item. The county bills a mattress as garbage by weight at the scale house, the two recyclers set their own per item price, and Waste Management quotes a mattress as a varying bulky item, so confirm the route and the amount before the mattress leaves the house.

Appliance pickup in EverettCity collection A washer, dryer, stove, water heater, dishwasher with a metal housing or microwave is a household appliance that the county recycling areas take at no charge for residents, provided the unit is free of garbage. Units holding refrigerant are refused there: refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, heat pumps and water coolers go to a scrap metal or appliance dealer instead, and the county lists several of them. The county recycling area takes non refrigerant appliances at no charge from residents, while the dealers listed for refrigerant units set their own prices and Waste Management quotes the same appliance as a varying bulky item, so confirm which route fits before the appliance is moved.

Bags & household clutter in EverettCity collection A bulky item is a booked collection rather than a cart load. In the Waste Management service area of south Everett, mattresses, appliances, console televisions and furniture are picked up by special arrangement when the customer calls, and the price varies by item. Rubatino, which serves most Everett addresses, publishes garbage, recycling and food and yard waste collection plus drop box and roll off containers for large volumes, so an oversized item there is quoted rather than set out. Waste Management lists bulky items at a varying rate that it quotes by phone, and Rubatino does not publish a price for an oversized item or a drop box, so confirm the item and the amount with the hauler that serves the address before anything is moved.

The local disposal guide
Everett does not run its own garbage crew. Rubatino Refuse Removal serves most of the city limits and Waste Management serves south Everett, so the first question for any oversized item is which hauler serves the address. Waste Management books mattresses, appliances, console televisions and furniture as bulky items by special arrangement, while Rubatino's published work for large volumes is a drop box or roll off container. Everything else runs through Snohomish County: the Airport Road transfer station on Minuteman Drive weighs a self hauled load and charges a minimum for the first 360 pounds, and restricted streams leave that route entirely, with electronics going free through E-Cycle Washington, refrigerant appliances going to the dealers the county lists, and paint and solvents going to the free household hazardous waste station on McDougall Avenue.

Exercise equipment is judged by what it is made of. A treadmill frame, weight stack or stationary bike that is at least 85 percent metal and no longer than eight feet counts as scrap metal in the free residential recycling area at a county station. Units that are mostly plastic, foam or upholstery are charged as garbage by weight.
Renovation debris is charged by weight rather than by the pickup. Snohomish County bills self hauled loads at the transfer station by the ton with a minimum for the first 360 pounds, and concrete, brick, asphalt and dirt are accepted there as garbage only. Rubatino rents 20 and 35 cubic yard drop boxes for a remodel or a re-roof, and Waste Management offers temporary containers for the same work in its service area.

The city sets no collection charge because it does not collect. Waste Management lists extra garbage at a per bag amount on its Snohomish County rate sheet and quotes a mattress, a sofa or an appliance as a varying bulky item, Rubatino quotes drop boxes and oversized work directly, and a self hauled load at the county station is billed by weight with a minimum for the first 360 pounds. Snohomish County runs a household hazardous waste station at 3434 McDougall Avenue in Everett that is free for households and open Wednesday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., on 425-388-6050, and it takes oil based paint, latex paint, solvents, gasoline, propane tanks in barbecue size or smaller, batteries, motor oil, oil filters, fluorescent tubes, pesticides, mercury thermometers and sharps from residents.
