The local disposal guide

Will the city
take it?

Mukilteo splits garbage service by address: Rubatino Refuse Removal serves north Mukilteo and Waste Management serves south Mukilteo, with weekly garbage, recycling every other week on blue weeks, and weekly yard and food waste for customers who subscribe. Everything bagged goes in the cart, an open lid over six inches draws an extra garbage charge, and extra recycling is free in a kraft bag or cardboard box labeled Recycle. Large items do not go in the cart. The hauler picks up mattresses, large appliances and building materials by special arrangement for a fee through 1-800-592-9995, and it also schedules curbside collection of small appliances, electronics, camping style propane canisters, large scrap metal and clean wood scraps. Once a year the city runs a curbside cleanup for regular residential cart customers that takes up to one yard of material and up to two larger items such as mattresses, sofas, large chairs and lawnmowers without gas or oil. Household hazardous waste goes free to the county facility in Everett, and a self haul goes to the county transfer station in Mountlake Terrace for the garbage minimum.

Weekly carts, recycling and extra recycling

Accepted with preparation

Garbage is collected weekly and recycling every other week on blue weeks by the hauler for the address, with extra recycling taken at no charge when it is left in a kraft bag or a cardboard box labeled Recycle.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Extra recycling carries no charge for a Waste Management Mukilteo customer, who leaves it at the curb in a kraft bag or cardboard box on the morning of the collection day with the label Recycle. A missed garbage collection on July 4 is made up as a double load on the next scheduled service day at no additional charge.
When & how
Garbage goes out every week, recycling on the blue weeks, and yard and food waste every week for customers who subscribe to that service. Check the collection calendar for the address, because the two haulers serve different parts of the city.
Get it ready
Bag all garbage before it goes in the cart, keep the lid closed because an open lid over six inches draws an extra garbage charge, keep recyclables loose rather than bagged, and keep hazardous waste, medical waste, syringes, fluorescent bulbs, liquids, fuel tanks, computers, televisions, concrete blocks, grease and oil out of every cart.

Bulky items by special arrangement

Accepted with preparation

Mattresses, large appliances and building materials are picked up at the curb by special arrangement with the hauler for a fee.

City cost & eligibility
The collection guide says bulky items such as mattresses, large appliances and building materials can be picked up by special arrangement for a fee, and publishes no amount, so call Waste Management at 1-800-592-9995 and confirm the charge for each item before it is set out.
When & how
Call 1-800-592-9995 to book the pickup, and set the items at the curb on the day the hauler gives you.
Get it ready
Keep the items out of the carts, keep them reachable at the curb, drain fuel and oil from lawn equipment, and remove nothing that would leave the piece unsafe to lift.

The annual curbside cleanup

Accepted with preparation

Once a year the city runs a curbside cleanup for regular residential cart customers that takes up to one yard of material and up to two larger items, with no fee published for the event.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. The cleanup is offered to Mukilteo regular residential customers with cart service or cart-based service, and the page publishes no charge for the event. Commercial and multi family addresses are not eligible. The 2026 event was held on Saturday, May 16, and the city asks residents to confirm the current year's date and details on 425-263-8000 or with the hauler.
When & how
Items go at the curb where the regular carts are placed by 6 a.m. on the event day, and large items have to sit at a public street where a large truck can reach them. The city recommends setting items out the night before.
Get it ready
Bundle, box or bag the material, keep the loose pile to no more than one yard, about five bags, weighing no more than 65 pounds in total, and keep the count to two larger items such as a mattress, a sofa, a large chair or a lawnmower with no gas or oil left in it.

Couches, sofas and furniture

Accepted with preparation

A couch, sofa or large chair leaves the curb either on the annual city cleanup as one of the two large items or on a hauler special arrangement pickup.

City cost & eligibility
A sofa or large chair can go out free as one of the two larger items the city cleanup allows for a regular residential cart customer, on the published event day, or it can be collected at the curb by Waste Management on a special arrangement pickup for a fee with no amount published, so choose the route and confirm the charge for a pickup at 1-800-592-9995.
When & how
Either hold the piece for the annual cleanup day and set it at the curb by 6 a.m., or call 1-800-592-9995 to book a special pickup for a day the hauler gives you.
Get it ready
Keep the piece out of the carts, put it where a large truck can reach it, empty the drawers and cushions of anything you are keeping, and remember that only two larger items go out free on the cleanup day.

Mattresses and box springs

Accepted with preparation

A mattress is named both on the hauler's special arrangement list and in the two large items the annual city cleanup takes, and it is accepted as garbage at a county transfer station.

City cost & eligibility
No mattress specific price is published in Mukilteo. The city cleanup takes a mattress as one of the two larger items at no published charge on the event day, a hauler special arrangement pickup is collected for a fee with no amount published, and a self hauled mattress goes to a county transfer station at the regular garbage rate, so confirm the route and the charge at 1-800-592-9995 or on 425-388-3425.
When & how
Hold the set for the annual cleanup day, book a special arrangement pickup at 1-800-592-9995, or take it to a county transfer station during posted hours.
Get it ready
Keep the set dry and out of the carts, set it flat where a crew can reach it, and remember that a county transfer station accepts a mattress as garbage while its recycling area is limited to residential customers.

Appliances and white goods

Special rules apply

A large appliance goes out by hauler special arrangement or on the city cleanup day, while a refrigerant appliance cannot go to a county transfer station at all.

City cost & eligibility
A large appliance is collected by special arrangement with a fee that the guide does not publish, a small appliance can be scheduled on the hauler's curbside special item service, and a lawnmower without gas or oil can be one of the two large items on the cleanup day, so call 1-800-592-9995 and confirm the charge and the route for the exact unit before it is set out.
When & how
Call 1-800-592-9995 to book the special arrangement pickup or the small appliance collection, or hold the unit for the annual cleanup day.
Get it ready
Empty the unit, keep it out of the carts, drain gas and oil from lawn equipment, keep refrigerant appliances such as a refrigerator, freezer, air conditioner, dehumidifier or heat pump out of a county transfer station because those are refused there, and ask the hauler how a refrigerant unit is handled.

Televisions and electronics

Special rules apply

Computers and televisions are on the hauler's keep out list and are refused at county facilities, so they go through the hauler's scheduled curbside service or a free E-Cycle Washington site.

City cost & eligibility
The collection guide keeps computers and televisions out of the garbage and offers a scheduled curbside collection of electronics with no amount published, while the county refuses electronics at its facilities and points to the state E-Cycle Washington program for computers, monitors and televisions, so call 1-800-592-9995 to confirm the curbside terms and use the E-Cycle Washington site locator for the free drop off route.
When & how
Call 1-800-592-9995 to schedule the curbside electronics collection, or take the device to an E-Cycle Washington collection site, which the county names as the route for the electronics it refuses.
Get it ready
Back up and erase personal data before the device leaves the house, keep the power cable and remote with the set, keep electronics out of both carts and out of any bulky pile, and never put a battery in the garbage.

Construction and home improvement debris

Special rules apply

Building material is not a cart item: the hauler collects it by special arrangement for a fee, the city cleanup refuses it, and a county transfer station takes brick, concrete, dirt and similar material as garbage only.

City cost & eligibility
From $30 for the Snohomish County transfer station garbage minimum for a self hauled load of 360 pounds or less, with a per ton rate above that weight and a pro rated charge for a partial load. A household that hauls its own construction material to a county transfer station, where asphalt, brick, concrete, dirt, sod, sand, gravel and rocks are accepted as garbage only. The city cleanup refuses construction debris, and the hauler collects building material at the curb by special arrangement for a fee that the guide does not publish.
When & how
Take the load to the nearest county transfer station during posted hours, or call 1-800-592-9995 to book a special arrangement pickup.
Get it ready
Cover and secure every load because an unsecured load fee applies at county facilities, keep liquid paint out of the load because it is refused at transfer stations while dried out cans are accepted, keep the load within the vehicle restrictions at the station, and expect a Hard to Handle fee if the load cannot be processed with standard equipment.

Exercise equipment

Special rules apply

No Mukilteo or county page read here names exercise equipment, so the machine is confirmed with the hauler before it is set out.

City cost & eligibility
Exercise equipment is not named on the hauler's bulky list, on the keep out list or in the city cleanup rules, so call Waste Management at 1-800-592-9995 with the machine and its size, ask whether it goes out as a special arrangement pickup or as large scrap metal, and confirm the charge before setting it at the curb.
When & how
Call the hauler first, then book the pickup for a day it gives you or hold the machine for the annual cleanup day if it qualifies as one of the two large items.
Get it ready
Take the machine apart as far as it comes apart, keep loose weights and parts with the frame, keep the console and any battery separate so they follow the electronics or battery route, and keep the machine out of the carts while the route is confirmed.

Tires

Accepted with preparation

Tires go to a county transfer station, where five passenger car or pickup truck tires are taken per customer per day at the regular garbage rate.

City cost & eligibility

A customer bringing no more than five passenger car or pickup truck size tires in one day to a county transfer station. Larger loads have to be arranged with the county solid waste division on 425-388-3425, and the city cleanup refuses tires.
When & how
Take the tires to a county transfer station during posted hours, or call 425-388-3425 about a load larger than the per day limit.
Get it ready
Keep the tire count to five per customer per day, keep the load to passenger car and pickup truck sizes, keep anything larger out of the load, and cover and secure the load so the unsecured load fee does not apply.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. The Snohomish County household hazardous waste facility is free to residential customers, and a load larger than 40 gallons should call before arriving. Businesses use the small quantity generator appointment program and pay a fee with the appointment.
When & how

Two haulers serve the city by address

Waste Management answers on 1-800-592-9995 and Rubatino on 425-259-0044. Rubatino asks containers out by 6:30 and applies an extra charge for anything beyond the subscribed amount, beyond 65 pounds for a 32-gallon can, or for carry out service more than five feet from the pickup point.

There is no garbage collection on July 4, and a double load is taken on the next scheduled service day at no additional charge while recycling and yard service continue as scheduled. Rubatino does not operate on Independence Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day or New Year's Day, and each of those holidays delays collection by one day.

North Mukilteo customers follow the Rubatino rules

A household in the northern part of the city, where Rubatino Refuse Removal is the hauler.

Cost & conditions
Rubatino says it is policy to take whatever is in, on or around the container, that there is an additional charge for anything beyond the subscribed amount or beyond 65 pounds for a 32-gallon can, and that carry out service more than five feet from the pickup point costs extra, so call 425-259-0044 and confirm the charge for the exact set before it goes out.
Arrange it
Bag all garbage, keep the lid closed with nothing stacked on it, put the container out by 6:30 on the collection day, and call 425-259-0044 about an extra charge or a carry out request.

The north side rules differ from the Waste Management guide, an open lid or debris stacked on the lid is charged as extra garbage, and the bulky and cleanup routes still run through the numbers in this guide rather than through the hauler's own list.

No charge. Free to residential customers, while businesses use the small quantity generator program and pay a fee at a scheduled appointment.

Battery and bulb drop off at City Hall

Mukilteo City Hall

11930 Cyrus Way, Mukilteo, WA 98275

Household batteries and compact fluorescent bulbs, which the collection guide lists as a drop off for Mukilteo residents.

The guide tells residents to call ahead to confirm business hours, and the drop off is meant for household batteries and bulbs rather than for large or commercial quantities.

Call 425-263-8000 to confirm the current hours, because the guide does not publish a schedule for the collection point.

The city and the hauler list City Hall as a battery and bulb drop off but publish no charge or terms, so call 425-263-8000 and confirm the hours and what is accepted before the trip.

Donation drop off and pickup for reusable goods

Northwest Center

12108 Mukilteo Speedway, Mukilteo, WA 98275

Reusable household goods, which the city lists among the donation options for items that do not need to be thrown away. The city page also lists Goodwill and Habitat for Humanity as donation drop offs.

Donation rather than disposal, so only reusable items that are in a condition the organization accepts qualify, and the city links each organization's acceptable item list for the exact rules.

Call ahead to the organization for current donation hours before loading a vehicle.

The city lists the donation organizations but publishes no hours, item list or fee for them, so contact the organization directly and confirm what it will take before bringing a reusable item.

Before you book

Your questions.
Straight answers.

Prices, timing and the details that matter at your address.

How much does pickup cost?

Choose your items to see the exact price. A standard sofa is $79 first and $29 additional. The highest first-item price applies once; every remaining item uses its additional-item price. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Review any applicable sales tax and the final total before payment.

Can I book a pickup for today?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup, where available. Choose from the dates shown at checkout. Your booking is for a pickup day, and we text you when your hauler is on the way.

Do my items need to be outside when I book?

You can book while your items are still inside. Arrange any indoor carrying and have everything outside and accessible according to your confirmation. We load and haul it away from there. Contact us before booking if your property has restricted access.

How do I book a bulky item pickup in Mukilteo?

Call Waste Management at 1-800-592-9995 and ask for a special pickup. Mattresses, large appliances and building materials are collected at the curb by special arrangement for a fee, and the guide publishes no amount, so confirm the charge for each item when you book and set the items out on the day the hauler gives you.Official guidance

What can go out on the Mukilteo curbside cleanup day?

No more than one yard of material, about five bags, weighing 65 pounds or less in total, plus up to two larger items such as mattresses, sofas, large chairs and lawnmowers without gas or oil. Everything has to be bundled, boxed or bagged at the curb by 6 a.m. Paints, solvents, pesticides, gasoline, cleaning materials, tires, rocks, concrete, construction debris, sod, yard waste, televisions, computers, phones and electronics are refused and left at the curb.Official guidance

Where can a Mukilteo mattress go?

A mattress is one of the two larger items a regular residential cart customer may set out on the annual city cleanup day, and it is also named on the hauler's list of bulky items collected by special arrangement for a fee at 1-800-592-9995. A household that hauls its own set can take it to a Snohomish County transfer station, where a mattress is accepted as garbage and the minimum garbage fee covers the first 360 pounds.Official guidance

Will Mukilteo take a refrigerator?

Yes, through the hauler rather than through a county transfer station. Large appliances including refrigerators are listed among the bulky items Waste Management collects by special arrangement for a fee at 1-800-592-9995, and a small appliance can be scheduled on the hauler's curbside special item service. Snohomish County refuses refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers and heat pumps at every county facility, so a refrigerant unit has to be arranged with the hauler or handled another way.Official guidance

Where do Mukilteo televisions and computers go?

Not in the garbage, because computers and televisions are on the hauler's keep out list, and not to a county facility, because Snohomish County refuses electronics at all of its sites and points residents to E-Cycle Washington. Waste Management will schedule a curbside collection of electronics on request at 1-800-592-9995, and the E-Cycle Washington network takes computers, monitors and televisions at drop off sites.Official guidance

Who collects garbage in Mukilteo?

Two franchised haulers split the city by address. Rubatino Refuse Removal serves north Mukilteo from 2812 Hoyt Avenue in Everett on 425-259-0044, and Waste Management serves south Mukilteo with curbside billing on 1-800-592-9995. Garbage is collected weekly, recycling every other week on blue weeks, and yard and food waste weekly for customers who subscribe, and the city also runs an annual cleanup day for its regular residential cart customers.Official guidance

What does Mukilteo charge for a bulky item?

The hauler collects mattresses, large appliances and building materials at the curb by special arrangement for a fee, with no amount published in the Mukilteo guide, so the price is quoted when the pickup is booked at 1-800-592-9995. A regular residential cart customer can instead use the annual city cleanup, which takes up to two larger items at no published charge, or haul the load to a county transfer station, where the minimum garbage fee covers the first 360 pounds.Official guidance

What cannot go in a Mukilteo cart?

Hazardous waste, medical waste, syringes, fluorescent bulbs, liquids, fuel tanks, computers, televisions, concrete blocks, grease and oil are all on the keep out list for the garbage cart, and recyclables and food scraps follow their own lists. Snohomish County adds that refrigerant appliances, electronics, liquid waste, canisters and tanks are refused at every county facility, and its household hazardous waste facility in Everett takes the paint, solvents, batteries and oils that cannot go in any cart.Official guidance
