A mattress or box spring has two priced routes: the city's recycling events charge for each piece in cash, and King County recycles them at five transfer stations for a handling fee per item.

$30 per mattress or box spring recycled at a King County transfer station, with a limit of six items per customer. Household load from within King County's service area; wet mattresses, futons and box springs are refused while stained or torn items are accepted.
When & how
Take the mattress to Factoria at 13800 SE 32nd Street in Bellevue, or bring it to a city recycling event on the published date.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress dry, because a wet one is refused. At a city event each mattress and each box spring is charged separately and payment is cash only, so bring exact change and arrive before the event closes to vehicles.
The city holds free recycling events on published dates, usually at Eastside Catholic School, with a gate time that cannot be missed. Items that carry a fee are paid in cash with exact change, cardboard is not taken, and confidential shredding is limited to four file-size boxes or five bags for each vehicle.
Transfers stations weigh household loads at the scale house and charge a minimum fee up to 320 pounds with a per-ton rate above it.
