The old sofa can stop holding up your plans.

You know it needs to go. The price, the pickup day and knowing it is done should be easy to settle, too.

A replacement is on the way.

Give the old couch its own pickup day. Check what your retailer will remove, then book the part you still need handled.

The move has enough moving parts.

See the price before you book and choose from the available dates. One less job to arrange before handing back the keys.

You are ready for the space back.

You do not need a whole room to clear. Book the sofa, recliner or sectional that needs to go, and follow the pickup through updates and photos.

The right sofa. The right price.

Count the sections, not the cushions.

A loveseat, a sleeper and a sectional can look similar in a photo. Match the shape and features so your online price covers what is actually going.

Three structural sectional modules slightly separated, with all cushions remaining on their bases.
This example has three structural sections. The cushions do not add to the count.

A straight sofa or loveseat

Choose Standard sofa for fixed seats with no pull-out bed or reclining mechanism. One whole sofa is one item.

A sectional

Count its structural sections, not the loose cushions. Choose the piece count, then check for a sleeper or reclining feature. One sectional booking covers the configuration you select.

A pull-out bed or reclining seats

Choose Sleeper sofa or Reclining sofa for those mechanisms. A single reclining chair has its own Recliner choice. All sofa types also includes futons and sofas with a chaise.

Bulky items at the Sudbury Landfill

Accepted with preparation

Walla Walla publishes no bulky curbside collection, and the residential rules forbid extra material on the ground beside the container. The route for a couch, a mattress or another large household item is the Sudbury Landfill, where a general waste load is weighed and charged, and one courtesy pass a year covers a free residential load up to six hundred pounds.

City cost & eligibility
From $17.99 per general waste load under 300 pounds at the Sudbury Landfill, with heavier loads charged by the ton and an additional 3.6 percent Washington State refuse tax on every disposal fee. Walla Walla residents bringing household material to the Sudbury Landfill. A household with current sanitation services also receives one courtesy pass a year that covers a single free load of residential waste or green waste up to 600 pounds including tax, used by surrendering a physical copy of the utility bill showing the sanitation charge at the scale house.
When & how
Take the load to the Sudbury Regional Landfill at 414 Landfill Road, open 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday to Saturday from March 1 to October 31 and 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday to Saturday from November 1 to February 28, with the pit area closing half an hour before closing time.
Get it ready
Secure the load, because an unsecured load is charged a fee, and keep restricted streams out of a general waste load: if restricted material is mixed with other refuse the highest applicable charge applies to the whole load and the landfill may refuse it. Present the physical utility bill with the sanitation charge when using the courtesy pass, keep children and pets in the vehicle, and note that scavenging is prohibited.

Couches, chairs and household furniture

Accepted with preparation

Furniture travels the same route as other household material: a weighed general waste load at the Sudbury Landfill. The annual courtesy pass covers one free residential load up to six hundred pounds, which is more than enough for a couch.

City cost & eligibility
From $17.99 per general waste load under 300 pounds at the Sudbury Landfill, with heavier loads charged by the ton and an additional 3.6 percent Washington State refuse tax. Walla Walla residents. A household with current sanitation services may put its free courtesy pass toward the trip, covering one residential load up to 600 pounds including tax.
When & how
Take the piece to the Sudbury Landfill during its published hours, or hold it for a trip that uses the annual courtesy pass so the load costs nothing.
Get it ready
Secure the piece in the vehicle and keep it out of the cart, because extra material beside the container is not collected. Keep restricted material out of the same load, since mixing it applies the highest charge to the whole load, and empty the drawers and remove anything you are keeping before the trip.

Nothing goes on the ground beside the cart

The container goes to the curb by 7:00 a.m. on the collection day, three feet from cars, utility poles, other containers and any other obstacle, not under low hanging branches, utility lines or a basketball hoop, with the lid opening toward the street. Extra material on the ground beside the container is not collected, wedged items stop the container emptying, and an overfilled or too heavy container is charged an additional fee. Bag small loose material so it does not blow away.

Take the free trip to Sudbury once a year

A household with current sanitation services receives one landfill courtesy pass a year covering a single free load of residential waste or green waste up to six hundred pounds including tax. Claim it by surrendering a physical copy of the applicable utility bill showing the sanitation charge at the scale house, and print both pages so the charge can be verified. Only one pass per address is honoured and the pass does not cover appliances with refrigerant, medical waste, electronic devices, asbestos, compost or dirt sales or tires.

Separate the streams before the scale

The rate sheet charges general waste loads, a lower rate for a vehicle carrying only cement, asphalt, concrete, soil or rock, and per unit rates for cooling appliances, televisions and computer hardware, and per tire rates for small tire loads. Mixing restricted material with other refuse applies the highest applicable charge to the whole load and the landfill may refuse it, so a clean single stream trip costs less than a mixed one.

Self haul in Walla Walla means one address for almost everything, because the city runs the landfill itself.
