The local disposal guide

Will the city
take it?

Sedona is unusual: the city does not run a trash or bulky item collection, and its utilities page answers trash questions with a list of private haulers instead. What the city does run is event based. Once a year it hosts a free household hazardous waste and electronics collection at the Sedona Red Rock High School parking lot, and once a spring it runs a curbside yard waste pickup by neighbourhood zone for brush, limbs and paper-bagged leaves. That annual event takes televisions, computers, microwaves, power tools and small appliances, and it refuses bulky items such as furniture and appliances by name, along with tires, motor oil and anything holding freon. Sedona Recycles, the local nonprofit, keeps three free drop-off sites open around the clock for loose recyclables and routes the material it cannot take elsewhere, including mattresses to the Camp Verde or Cottonwood transfer station.

Mattresses and box springs

Special rules apply

Sedona has no municipal mattress collection. Sedona Recycles routes mattresses to the Camp Verde or Cottonwood transfer station in its own material guidance, and both city events refuse them: the annual collection event will not take bulk items, and the spring yard waste pickup lists mattresses as not accepted.

City cost & eligibility
The transfer stations publish no rate on the pages available here and Sedona Recycles gives no price, so the fee is confirmed with the station at 928-531-0255 before a trip.
When & how
Take the unit to the Cottonwood transfer station at 1500 W. Mingus Ave., open Monday to Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and closed Sunday, or confirm the Camp Verde option first, since Sedona Recycles names both without stating which terms apply.
Get it ready
Keep the unit dry and strap it down for the drive, and do not put it out with the spring yard waste pile, which lists mattresses among its refusals. Confirm acceptance and the fee by phone before loading, because the station page publishes no item list.

Couches, furniture and bulky items

Special rules apply

Sedona publishes no bulky item or furniture collection. The annual city collection event refuses bulky items such as furniture by name, and Sedona Recycles states plainly that it no longer accepts bulky items, so a couch moves through a private hauler or a transfer station trip.

City cost & eligibility
No city rate exists and the private haulers set their own prices, so the cost is confirmed with the hauler or at the transfer station before the piece is moved.
When & how
Call one of the haulers the city lists, such as Patriot Disposal Services at 928-203-9995 or Waste Management at 928-282-5411, or plan a transfer station trip during its open hours, Monday to Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Get it ready
Keep the piece dry and out of the recycling drop-offs, which refuse bulky items, and keep it away from the spring yard waste pile, which accepts plant material only. Confirm whether the hauler wants the piece at the curb or collected from the property before the pickup day.

Appliances and white goods

Special rules apply

Appliances are refused by both city events: the annual collection event refuses bulky items such as furniture and appliances and separately refuses refrigerators and anything containing freon, and the spring yard waste pickup lists appliances as not accepted.

City cost & eligibility
Sedona publishes no appliance rate because it runs no appliance service; a private hauler prices the pickup and the transfer station prices a self-hauled load, so the amount is confirmed before the unit moves.
When & how
Arrange the pickup with one of the haulers the city lists, or confirm with the Cottonwood transfer station at 928-531-0255 before hauling the unit there during its Monday to Saturday hours.
Get it ready
Empty the unit and keep the doors secure, and treat a refrigerator, freezer or air conditioner as a separate case because the city event refuses anything that contains freon. Never put an appliance in a Sedona Recycles bin, which refuses bulky material.

Televisions, computers and electronics

Accepted with preparation

Electronics are the one large material the city does take, at its free annual household hazardous waste and electronics collection. The accepted list covers cathode ray tube and flat screen televisions, computers, monitors, printers, microwaves, cables, phones, power tools and small appliances, with a limit of twenty CRTs.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. The city event is free for City of Sedona residents and residents of unincorporated Yavapai County areas, and Sedona Recycles states that Staples accepts household, camera and button batteries free of charge.
When & how
The 2026 event runs on Saturday, October 24 from 7:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Sedona Red Rock High School parking lot, 995 Upper Redrock Loop Rd., as a drive-through drop-off. Sedona residents in Coconino County can also use the Flagstaff Hazardous Products Center year-round on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Get it ready
Keep the screen whole and wipe the drive or reset the device, bring power cords and cables with the device, and note that only twenty cathode ray tube televisions or monitors are accepted and only on a first come basis. Paper shredding at the same event is limited to four boxes per vehicle and takes paper only, and no controlled substances are accepted with medications.
City waste collection page: the annual household hazardous waste and electronics event with its date, location, accepted and refused lists, the Coconino County alternative and the yard waste linkSedona Recycles accepted materials page: the recyclable list, the exchange program, the landfill-only list and the outside routes for mattresses, electronics, batteries, bulbs, plastic bags and yard waste

Construction and demolition material

Special rules apply

Sedona publishes no construction or demolition channel at all. The city's annual event refuses bulky material and commercial waste, the spring yard waste pickup takes plant material only, and the recycling drop-offs refuse bulky items, so a renovation load is a private container or hauler job.

City cost & eligibility
No city construction rate exists and no city facility accepts the material, so the private container or hauler quotes the price and the transfer station confirms any self-haul terms before the load is built.
When & how
Arrange the container around the project and keep the material off the street, because the spring yard waste pile and the annual collection event both refuse it and neither has a construction day.
Get it ready
Keep construction material out of the recycling drop-offs and out of the yard waste pile, and keep commercial or contractor waste out of the city event, which refuses commercial business waste outright. Because no published channel exists, describe the material and the volume when asking a hauler for a quote.
City waste collection page: the annual household hazardous waste and electronics event with its date, location, accepted and refused lists, the Coconino County alternative and the yard waste linkCurbside yard waste page: the spring zone-based pickup, placement rules, accepted brush and bagged leaves and the refusal of appliances, mattresses and household wasteSedona Recycles home page: three free public drop-off sites open 24/7 and the current plastics and bulky item limits

Exercise equipment

Special rules apply

Exercise equipment is not named in any Sedona program. The annual city event takes small household appliances and power tools but refuses bulky items, and a treadmill is a bulky item, so the route is a private hauler or a confirmed transfer station trip.

City cost & eligibility
No published rate covers an exercise machine, because Sedona runs no bulky service; the private hauler or the transfer station sets the price, so it is confirmed before the machine is moved.
When & how
Call a hauler from the city's list before the machine is moved, or confirm with the Cottonwood transfer station at 928-531-0255 for a self-haul trip during its Monday to Saturday hours.
Get it ready
Fold or tie down the deck and handles, take the console and any battery pack off so the electronics can go to the city's electronics event instead, and keep the machine out of the recycling bins, which refuse bulky items.

Bulky items and household junk

Special rules apply

There is no city bulky item collection in Sedona. The city's own event refuses bulky items such as furniture and appliances, Sedona Recycles refuses bulky items, and the city instead lists the private haulers residents can hire for trash and bulky removal.

City cost & eligibility
Each private hauler sets its own price and the city publishes none, so the cost is confirmed with the hauler, or with the transfer station for a self-hauled load, before anything is collected.
When & how
Call one of the listed haulers to arrange the pickup, or drive the load to the Cottonwood transfer station at 1500 W. Mingus Ave., open Monday to Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and closed Sunday.
Get it ready
Keep the load out of the recycling drop-offs and away from the spring yard waste pile, which accepts one pile of plant material per residence and refuses appliances, mattresses, garbage and other household waste. Confirm with the hauler where the pile should sit so it does not block a shared driveway or the street.

The city collection event is one Saturday morning each year

The 2026 household hazardous waste and electronics collection runs on Saturday, October 24 from 7:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Sedona Red Rock High School parking lot, 995 Upper Redrock Loop Rd., as a drive-through for City of Sedona residents and residents of unincorporated Yavapai County areas. Bring electronics whole and wipe the drives first, keep cathode ray tube televisions or monitors to the twenty item limit that is first come, and bring no more than four boxes of paper for shredding.

City waste collection page: the annual household hazardous waste and electronics event with its date, location, accepted and refused lists, the Coconino County alternative and the yard waste link

What the city event refuses, and where those items go instead

The event refuses ammunition and fireworks, bulky items such as furniture and appliances, car and vehicle batteries, commercial business waste, compressed gas cylinders other than propane, explosives, latex and acrylic paints, motor oil, radioactive material including smoke detectors, anything containing freon including refrigerators, and tires. Latex paint can be dried with kitty litter or sawdust and put in the regular trash, and vehicle batteries and motor oil go back to garages or auto supply stores.

City waste collection page: the annual household hazardous waste and electronics event with its date, location, accepted and refused lists, the Coconino County alternative and the yard waste link

The spring yard waste pile is one pile, plant material only

Place one pile two feet from the edge of the street pavement where it is visible from the road, by 4 p.m. the day before the zone's first service date, and expect it to be collected once on one of the zone's service dates. Brush, shrub trimmings and limbs up to eight inches thick and eight feet long are accepted with up to ten paper bags of leaves and pine needles, never in plastic, and the total has to stay under five yards or a pile ten feet by four feet by three feet. Cactus trimmings, appliances, hazardous material, garbage, mattresses and other household waste are refused.

Recycling drop-offs stay loose and take no bulky material

Sedona Recycles keeps three free public drop-off sites open 24 hours a day. Keep recyclables loose rather than bagged, flatten boxes, and remember the current limits: only plastics numbered one and two in bottles and jugs, no lids, no number five tubs, no styrofoam and no bulky items. Glass bottles are welcome but not mirrors, window glass or Pyrex, and bagged shredded paper is the only material accepted inside a plastic bag.

Hire one of the haulers the city lists

A Sedona household with household trash, recycling or bulky material to clear and no city collection service to call.

Cost & conditions
Each hauler sets its own service price and the city publishes none, so the rate and the pickup terms are confirmed with the hauler directly.
Arrange it
Call a hauler from the city's list, which includes Patriot Disposal Services at 928-203-9995, Taylor Waste at 928-649-2662, Waste Management at 928-282-5411 and Sir Moves A Lot at 928-282-2150, and agree on the pickup point and the day.

These are private companies rather than a city service, the city does not set or publish their rates, and the local recycling drop-offs still refuse bulky material, so the hauler has to take the whole load.

Staples for batteries and small devices

A household with household, camera or button batteries, or small electronics it would rather hand in locally.

Cost & conditions
No charge. Sedona Recycles publishes that household, camera and button batteries are accepted at Staples free of charge; the store sets the terms for any other device it takes.
Arrange it
Take the items to a Staples store and confirm the store's terms for anything beyond batteries before a larger drop-off.

Sedona Recycles lists Staples for electronics and free battery drop-off but the store controls what it accepts, and the city event remains the place for televisions, monitors and computers, so confirm before loading a mixed load.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Sedona works differently from most cities: there is no municipal trash or bulky collection, and the city answers trash questions with a list of private haulers that includes Patriot Disposal Services, Taylor Waste, Waste Management and Sir Moves A Lot, plus the Cottonwood transfer station at 928-649-9733. The city's own waste work is event based. Each spring it runs a curbside yard waste pickup by zone, accepting one pile per residence of brush and limbs up to eight inches thick, up to ten paper bags of leaves, and refusing appliances, mattresses and household waste, and each year it hosts a free household hazardous waste and electronics collection at the Sedona Red Rock High School parking lot, which takes televisions, computers, microwaves, power tools and small appliances but refuses bulky items, tires, motor oil, latex paint and anything holding freon. Sedona Recycles keeps three free drop-off sites open around the clock for loose recyclables with no bulky items and no number five plastics, and routes the rest: mattresses to the Camp Verde or Cottonwood transfer station, batteries and small electronics to Staples, bulbs to Home Depot in Cottonwood, plastic bags to Bashas or Safeway, and yard waste to the city maintenance yard on Contractors Road from December 26 through January 31. Where does a Sedona mattress go?

Sedona Recycles publishes the answer on its accepted materials page: mattresses go to the Camp Verde or Cottonwood transfer station, and the Cottonwood site at 1500 W. Mingus Ave. is open Monday to Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The city's own events refuse mattresses, so there is no curbside option, and the fee is confirmed by phone.Official guidance

Does Sedona collect furniture at the curb?

No city furniture collection is published, and the annual household hazardous waste and electronics event refuses bulky items such as furniture by name. Sedona Recycles also states that it no longer accepts bulky items, so a couch is a private hauler job or a trip to a transfer station.Official guidance

Will the Sedona city event take my old appliance?

No. The annual event's refusal list names bulky items such as furniture and appliances, and it separately refuses refrigerators and any other item containing freon. The spring yard waste pickup also lists appliances as not accepted, so an appliance goes through a private hauler or a confirmed transfer station trip.Official guidance

Where do Sedona televisions and computers go?

To the city's free annual household hazardous waste and electronics collection, held in 2026 on Saturday, October 24 from 7:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Sedona Red Rock High School parking lot, 995 Upper Redrock Loop Rd. Televisions, monitors, computers, printers, microwaves, cords, phones and small appliances are all on the accepted list, with a limit of twenty CRTs, and Sedona Recycles points residents to Staples for free battery drop-off and other devices.Official guidance

Who collects trash in Sedona?

A private company the household hires. The city does not run trash collection, and its utilities page lists Patriot Disposal Services at 928-203-9995, Sir Moves A Lot at 928-282-2150, Taylor Waste at 928-649-2662, Waste Management at 928-282-5411, Sedona Recycles at 928-204-1185 and the Cottonwood transfer station at 928-649-9733. The city itself runs the annual hazardous waste and electronics event and the spring yard waste pickup.Official guidance

Why can I not book a city bulky item pickup in Sedona?

Because Sedona does not offer one. The city lists private haulers instead, its annual collection event refuses bulky items such as furniture and appliances by name, and Sedona Recycles states plainly that it no longer accepts bulky items. A couch, mattress or appliance is therefore a hauler job or a confirmed transfer station trip.Official guidance

Who can use the Sedona collection event?

City of Sedona residents and residents of unincorporated Yavapai County areas, which the city lists to include places like Cornville, Lake Montezuma, Mayer, Rimrock, Village of Oak Creek and Verde Village. The event is free and runs as a drive-through on one Saturday morning, and Sedona residents inside Coconino County can also use the Flagstaff Hazardous Products Center year-round on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.Official guidance

What does Sedona Recycles take now?

Plastics numbered one and two in the shape of bottles and jugs with the lids off, aluminium and tin cans, cardboard, paper, glass bottles in green, clear and brown, clothing, clean foil and emptied dry paint cans, with bagged shredded paper as the only material that goes in a bag. Number five tubs, styrofoam, plastic bags, mirrors, window glass, Pyrex and bulky items are all refused, and the three drop-off sites are free and open 24 hours a day.Official guidance

Where do Sedona households take batteries and light bulbs?

Batteries go to the city's annual collection event, which takes AAA through 9-volt, rechargeable and button types but not vehicle batteries, and Sedona Recycles notes that Staples accepts household, camera and button batteries free of charge. Bulbs and tubes go to the city event, which takes any bulb, tube or ballast, or to Home Depot in Cottonwood the rest of the year, and vehicle batteries and motor oil go back to garages or auto supply stores.Official guidance
