The county's six transfer stations are open to every Maricopa County resident with no identification required, and a load is priced by the vehicle that carries it, from a car load of household trash to a trailer load or a bag of trash.
City cost & eligibility
From $2 for the published bagged trash rate of $2 per 30 gallon bag, with a car or station wagon load of household trash at $6, vans and sport utility vehicles at $9, pickup trucks at $12 and trailers at $12, green waste loads at $4 to $40 depending on the vehicle, and per item prices for furniture, mattresses, appliances and CRTs. All Maricopa County residents, with no identification required at the recycling centers. Payment is by debit or credit card only, and vehicle load pricing covers the cargo area of a single vehicle or trailer.
When & how
The stations operate from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with day patterns that differ by site: Cave Creek and Hassayampa run Wednesday through Saturday, Aguila is open Thursday and Friday, and Morristown is open Wednesday and Saturday, so check the site before loading.

Separate recyclables from the trash load because the recyclable streams carry no load charge, keep tires to five or fewer per visit with the rims off, keep used oil or antifreeze to five gallons per visit, and leave batteries, household hazardous waste, propane or refrigerant containers, asbestos, manure, radioactive material and wet cell batteries out of the load entirely because they are refused.
A mattress is on the county's per item line beside furniture, so it is charged by the piece at a county transfer station.

Maricopa County residents hauling the piece to a transfer station during operating hours and paying by debit or credit card. A private hauler sets its own price for a curbside pickup.

Keep the mattress dry and wrapped so it can be handled, count a mattress and box spring as separate pieces, and keep the bedding out of the green waste load, which is priced for tree trimmings, wood, grass and weeds.
