Treadmill, walking pad or commercial model?
Household treadmill includes folding home models with a tall console. Choose Walking pad for a compact under-desk model, or Commercial treadmill for a large gym machine. All equipment opens those choices.
An exercise bike, elliptical or rower
Spin, upright, recumbent and air bikes all use Exercise bike, including Peloton and other brands. One elliptical includes its connected base, handles and pedals. Rowing machines and Pilates reformers have their own choices.
Weights, racks and benches
Add together the pounds of loose dumbbells, kettlebells, plates and barbells. Free weights are priced in 10 lb units, rounding the combined weight up. For example, 25 lb uses three units. Add a stand, rack or bench separately if it is going too.

Exercise equipment is not named on the district's accepted or refused lists, so the machine has to be confirmed before it goes to the curb. It is a large household item rather than a white good or a listed piece of furniture.
City cost & eligibility
No published rate or item listing covers an exercise machine. Confirm with CR&R Customer Service at (949) 646-4617 whether the machine can be listed on a large item pickup.
When & how
Call CR&R before the pickup is booked and describe the machine, including its size and weight, so it can be listed on the appointment if it is accepted.
Get it ready
Take the machine down as far as it will come apart, keep any loose weights and parts with it, and remove a console or battery pack so that part can be handled as electronic waste instead.
A large item pickup is made by a separate truck from the weekly trash collection, and CR&R collects only the items the resident listed when the appointment was booked. The resident calls (949) 646-4617 from Monday to Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. or files an online request, names each item, and receives a date that may be a week or more out.
The size caps and the refused list decide what can go out
No item may exceed 8 by 4 feet or 150 pounds, which the district describes as the limit of what two people can lift, and asphalt, building materials, car bodies, chemicals and hazardous waste, concrete, sand or sandbags, soil and tires are all refused. Glass is accepted only when tape is applied in a star shape so it does not break, and yard debris has to be contained and limited to one cubic yard.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

No charge. CMSD solid waste customers, three complimentary pickups a year with ten items at each pickup, with every item inside the 8 by 4 foot and 150 pound limits. Dumpster-service households are not eligible.
Arrange it

The program refuses building materials, concrete, asphalt, soil, sand, tires, chemicals and anything over the size or weight cap, and it will not collect an item that was not listed when the pickup was booked.
The district's household programs are collection based rather than drop-off based. A CMSD solid waste customer books a large item pickup for a couch, a mattress, an appliance, scrap metal, glass, clothing or a small amount of contained yard debris, with three complimentary pickups a year and ten items at each one, none larger than 8 by 4 feet or heavier than 150 pounds, scheduled through CR&R at (949) 646-4617. Household hazardous waste, which for this program includes televisions, computers, printers, cell phones, stereos, scanners and other small appliances along with paints, chemicals, batteries, bulbs and sharps, is collected free at the front of the house up to three times a year with a maximum of 15 gallons or 125 pounds per pickup. Construction material, concrete, asphalt, soil, sand and tires have no district route at all: the large item program refuses them outright and the district tells a household in that position to call a contracted hauler. How do I book free weights, a weight rack or a bench?+
