The local disposal guide
Fontana contracts with Burrtec Waste Industries for weekly trash, recycling and green waste collection, and every household gets three free curbside collections a year for large items such as stumps and appliances, which the hauler describes as covering furniture and mattresses too. Electronics and household chemicals do not go in the barrels: they go to the City household hazardous waste facility on Orange Way, which opens on Saturdays for residents carrying a California identification card with a Fontana address. Renovation debris has no curbside route at all, so a project load moves through a Rent-A-Bin or a roll-off box ordered from the hauler.

Items too large to fit in a barrel, including furniture, mattresses and appliances, are collected at the curb three times a year at no charge.
Appliances are named in the City's free curbside large item program, and the hauler collects them along with furniture and mattresses.
Televisions, computer monitors and other electronic waste stay out of the barrels, and Fontana residents can drop them at the City household hazardous waste facility on Saturdays or add them to a large item pickup.
No curbside route takes construction or renovation material. The City lists Rent-A-Bins of three cubic yards and larger as a paid service, and the rate schedule publishes temporary bin and roll-off rates for the load.
The handoff matters
Collection is weekly on the day assigned to the address, and the City publishes a pickup map for the routes. Do not set containers out on extremely windy days, because they can blow over; the City asks residents to wait until the following week instead. A collection day that falls on or follows New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving or Christmas is delayed by one day.

Anything too large to fit in the trash barrel. The City names stumps and appliances as examples, and Burrtec describes the same collection as covering furniture, mattresses and appliances. Each household gets three of those collections a year at no charge.Official guidance
Call Burrtec and ask for a large or bulky item pickup. The City publishes 909-822-9739 as the hauler's Fontana number and 909-822-6531 for an appliance or bulky item pickup, and the items go to the curb on the day the hauler confirms.Official guidance
Three per year at no charge under the City's residential program. A collection beyond the three is billed from the published rate schedule, which sets a service charge for the pickup and adds a per item charge for every item collected.Official guidance
Exercise equipment is not named in the City's examples or in the hauler's description of what the large item collection covers, so describe the machine when you call Burrtec and let the hauler confirm it before the machine goes to the curb.Official guidance
On a large or bulky item pickup at the curb. Appliances are named in the City's free removal three times a year and again in the hauler's description of what the collection covers, so call Burrtec and ask for the pickup rather than an extra trash barrel.Official guidance
The City does not publish a separate rule for an appliance that holds refrigerant; it treats appliances as part of the large item collection, and no refrigerant line appears on the 2026 rate schedule. Take the doors off, and confirm with Burrtec when you book whether anything else is needed for the unit.Official guidance
To the City's household hazardous waste facility at 16454 Orange Way, open Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. Televisions, monitors, laptops, printers, cell phones, microwaves and similar devices are on the accepted electronic list, and the site is for Fontana residents carrying a California identification card with a Fontana address.Official guidance
Household batteries are accepted with electronic waste at the Orange Way facility on Saturdays, so they do not go in any barrel. The City also keeps household battery collection bins at City Hall and at many of its parks and community buildings, and its residential page lists which sites have a battery bin and which also take beverage containers.Official guidance
Yes. The hauler collects electronic waste on a scheduled pickup and asks customers to contact its local customer service department, and the City's own electronic page points to the same hauler for appliances. Either way the curbside route uses one of the three free large item collections a household gets each year.Official guidance
No. The free curbside collection is for large household items such as furniture, mattresses and appliances, and the weekly barrels are for household material, with the green barrel refusing concrete, dirt, rocks and painted wood. Renovation debris needs a container ordered from the hauler.Official guidance
The City lists Rent-A-Bins of three cubic yards and larger as a service for an additional fee, and the rate schedule publishes a temporary three cubic yard bin plus roll-off boxes in ten, twenty and forty cubic yards, each with its own included tonnage and rental terms.Official guidance
Burrtec Waste Industries, under contract with the City. The City's trash and recycling services page prints the hauler's Fontana office at 9820 Cherry Avenue and its number as 909-822-9739, and households get weekly trash, recycling and green waste collection on the day assigned to the address.Official guidance
To the City's household hazardous waste facility at 16454 Orange Way, open Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. It takes paint and thinners, motor oil and filters, batteries, antifreeze, garden chemicals, pool and hobby supplies, fluorescent bulbs, used cooking oil, mercury thermostats and pharmaceuticals, and each visit is limited to 15 gallons or 125 pounds with no container over five gallons.Official guidance
Yes. The Reuse Center at the household hazardous waste facility sorts usable products that residents bring in and offers them to City of Fontana residents at no charge, including automotive fluids, fertilizers, household cleaners and polishes, pesticides, pool chemicals and water-based paints. It is limited to one visit per household per calendar month, with a California identification card showing a Fontana address.Official guidance
The City provides complimentary pull-out or back-yard service for senior and disabled residents, so the barrels do not have to be moved to the curb, and it offers reduced rates to those residents as well. Pull-out and back-yard service is otherwise a paid option on the service rate schedule, so confirm the eligibility when the service is set up.Official guidance
