City cost & eligibility
Hemet publishes no per-appliance disposal rate. The city rate sheet lists a freon removal fee of $89.88 for residential service, the community clean-up takes appliances at no charge, and the county landfill takes up to four appliances per residential customer per day, so confirm which route fits the unit and whether the freon fee applies with CR&R at (951) 943-1991 before the appliance is moved.
When & how
Take the unit to a community clean-up event between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. on a published date, or drive it to Badlands or Lamb Canyon, open 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
Get it ready
Empty the unit, tape or strap the doors shut so they cannot swing open in transit, and keep it upright where the vehicle allows. Ask about the freon removal fee before a refrigerated unit is collected, and keep appliances out of a recycling or organics cart.
Carts out by six in the morning and back in the same day
CR&R asks that containers be at the curb no later than 6:00 a.m. on collection day, side by side about one foot apart and at least three feet from any obstruction, with the handles and wheels facing the home. Containers come back in within 12 hours after service, and the city expects carts removed from the public right-of-way within 24 hours of the collection day and stored where they are not visible from the street. Items not inside a container are not collected, and no liquid or hazardous waste goes into any container.
The city and CR&R hold a free clean-up for Hemet residential customers on February 7, April 25, August 1 and November 7, 2026, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the Hemet Public Library, 300 E. Latham Ave, entered from westbound Latham Ave. Bring a valid identification and proof of residency, unload your own vehicle, and place items inside the containers provided while children and pets stay in the car, because the site closes promptly at noon. Sofas, chairs, refrigerators, water heaters, washers, dryers, mattresses, other household items, bundled tree limbs, green waste, metals and electronics are accepted, up to four tires without rims. Automotive parts, engines, propane tanks, cleaners, gas and oil containers, fluorescent lights, batteries, paints, lumber, fencing, construction debris and any hazardous material or liquid are refused.

Arrange it
Drive to the Hemet Public Library, 300 E. Latham Ave, from westbound Latham Ave, between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. on February 7, April 25, August 1 or November 7, 2026, unload your own vehicle, and place items in the containers provided.
Automotive parts, engines, propane tanks, cleaners, gas and oil containers, fluorescent lights, batteries, paints, lumber, fencing, commercial or construction debris, hazardous materials and liquids are refused. Tires are limited to four and must have no rims and not be truck or commercial tires, and trucks and trailers may be sent to the Perris Transfer Station.

Self-haul in Hemet means Riverside County's Badlands Sanitary Landfill at 31125 Ironwood Avenue in Moreno Valley, or Lamb Canyon at 16411 Lamb Canyon Road in Beaumont, both open 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and closed on the county holiday schedule. Neither site takes household hazardous waste, and an uncovered or unsecured load is surcharged. Mattresses and box springs are free at either site for up to five pieces per residential customer per day when they are carried separately from trash, up to two CRT televisions or monitors per day are free, and appliances and tires are limited to four and five pieces per day. The county charges by weight on its published fee schedule, and a Hemet customer who wants to self-haul a regular refuse load instead of using the curbside service needs approval from the City of Hemet Public Works Director under Municipal Code Chapter 62. For a cleanout too big for the two free pickups, CR&R rents a three cubic yard temporary bin or a ten to forty cubic yard debris box. Where do Hemet paint, batteries and fluorescent bulbs go?+
Household hazardous waste may not go through the automated collection, so it goes to a Riverside County collection facility, which is free for county residents and takes paint, batteries, fluorescent tubes and bulbs, cleaners, garden chemicals, pool chlorine, propane, used oil and filters, sharps and electronic waste. CR&R also runs its own hazardous waste lines, with electronic waste at no cost for up to five items a household each year and paid options for oil, antifreeze, universal waste and a sharps mail back program. What do I do with extra trash that will not fit in the cart?+
Extra material that will not fit in an automated cart is a bulky item in Hemet. Each residential customer gets two bulky item pickups per calendar year free of charge, and one pickup takes loose large items up to three cubic yards or two individual pieces such as a television, a couch or a mattress, scheduled through CR&R at (800) 755-8112.
