Get it ready
Empty the unit and keep it upright beside the carts. Refrigerators with freon and air conditioning units with CFCs are accepted as bulky items, and the city refuses hazardous waste such as oils and cleaners, so keep those out of the load.
Nothing goes outside the carts except after a booking
Trash, recyclables and green waste placed outside the carts are not collected, and the city wants everything in the right cart with the lid closed. Furniture and carpet are refused in the green waste cart, hazardous waste is refused in every cart, and a load that will not fit needs a bulky pickup or one of the extra bag allowances instead.
Bulky and electronic waste pickups are booked with Waste Management at 800.423.9986 at least 24 hours before the regular service day, with a description of the items so the load is routed correctly. The items go beside the carts before 6 a.m. on the collection day, and a different truck from the usual one may make the collection. Up to four pickups a month are free.

Moreno Valley residents can self haul, and the city points to two sites. The Waste Management Transfer Station at 17700 Indian Street takes recyclable material including electronic waste and charges disposal fees that residents are told to confirm, and it hosts the city's four free dump days in 2026 for bulky items and electronic waste. The Badlands Sanitary Landfill at 31125 Ironwood Avenue takes household trash and green waste plus residential televisions, monitors and cathode ray tubes, with up to two cathode ray tube devices per trip at no charge, and it charges a minimum fee for loads up to 1,000 pounds. Residents who want to handle their own trash regularly can apply for a self-haul permit through the city at 951.413.3109, and household chemicals go to the city's free hazardous waste collection events rather than to either landfill.
