A Redlands bulky item pickup is scheduled in advance with customer service at 909-798-7529 and collects on the regular solid waste service day when space is available. Requests are taken first come first served and are capped at 20 a day, so anything received after the cap rolls to the next available service day. The material has to be at the curb by 6 a.m. on the scheduled day, and city crews cannot enter a building or a residence to remove an item.
The city's bulky item flyer refuses household hazardous waste, tires, liquids, paints, household chemicals, electronic waste, televisions, computers and electronic appliances. The refuse cart refuses the same problem material: electronic waste, paint cans, medical supplies and batteries all require special handling, and the county household hazardous waste site at the corporate yard takes them on Saturdays. The Saturday hazardous waste site has its own conditions
The county household hazardous and electronic waste site sits at the City of Redlands Corporate Yard, 1270 W. Park Ave., entered from Kansas Street north of Redlands Animal Control, and runs on Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. It is closed on holiday weekends and when it rains, each visit is limited to 15 gallons or 125 pounds in containers no larger than five gallons, and a leaking container has to go inside a larger container or bag. Sharps go in an approved sharps container rather than a juice bottle or a coffee can.
Redlands does not collect on Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day or New Year's Day, and the rest of that week runs one day later. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, Cesar Chavez Day, Juneteenth, Columbus Day and Veterans Day do not change the collection schedule. A bulky pickup is booked onto the regular service day, so a holiday week moves it as well.
