Filled bags and boxes
Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.
Empty cardboard and containers
Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.
Furniture and other larger items
Add the actual larger item alongside your bags and boxes, such as a sofa, chair or mattress. It has its own price and preparation. Keep construction materials and items needing special handling out of ordinary household bags.

Furniture, appliances, electronic waste, tree branches, clothing and scrap wood are collected at the curb, with four free bulky item pickups a year of no more than four items each.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. Four free curbside bulky item pickups a year for Lancaster residential customers with accounts in good standing, with no more than four items in each pickup. Additional items are collected for a nominal fee that the City does not publish.
When & how
Schedule the pickup at home.wm.com/Lancaster or with customer service at 661-947-7197 at least 48 hours before the regular service day, then put the items at the curb where the hauler can reach them.
Get it ready
Keep the pile to the accepted categories and out of the three carts, keep it to items two people can handle, and wrap a mattress or box spring before it goes out. Household hazardous waste such as paint, oil and batteries, along with spas, pianos, camper shells and anything needing more than two people, is not part of this collection.
Appliances are on the City's accepted bulky item list, so a refrigerator, washer or stove leaves the curb on one of the four free pickups a year.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. An appliance rides one of the four free bulky item pickups a year for a residential account in good standing, with no more than four items in a pickup.
When & how
Book the bulky pickup at home.wm.com/Lancaster or with customer service at 661-947-7197 at least 48 hours before the regular service day.
Get it ready
Empty the appliance and set it at the curb where the crew can reach it. Keep the appliance out of all three carts, because the trash container does not take appliances and the organics and recycling carts are for their own material only.
Electronic waste is both an accepted bulky item at the curb and a free drop-off for Antelope Valley residents at the Antelope Valley Environmental Collection Center in Palmdale.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. Free on the curb as one of the four bulky item pickups a year, or free to drop at the Antelope Valley Environmental Collection Center, which the City and Los Angeles County both describe as free for Antelope Valley and county residents.
When & how
Either book a bulky item pickup at 661-947-7197, or take the material to the collection center at 1200 West City Ranch Road in Palmdale on the first or third Saturday of the month between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Get it ready
Wipe personal data from a computer, phone or drive before it leaves the property, and keep batteries and electronic waste out of all three carts, because the trash container does not take them. Bring material in sturdy containers and expect a per trip limit at the collection center.
Construction waste is not accepted in the trash cart and the City publishes no curbside route for it, so a project load moves through a hauler container.
City cost & eligibility
The hauler lists construction waste among the materials that are not acceptable in the trash container, and the City's free curbside program covers only furniture, appliances, electronic waste, tree branches, clothing and scrap wood. The hauler sells roll-off dumpster rental, construction waste disposal and its Bagster bag as separate services, and no residential price for them appears in the material reviewed, so the route is a container arranged with the hauler rather than a household collection.
When & how
Order the container before the work starts and confirm the pull when it is full, rather than putting material out for a household collection.
Get it ready
Keep boards, drywall, tile, roofing material, concrete and demolition debris out of the three carts and off the bulky pile, and secure any load that is hauled. Paint, solvents and other chemicals go to the Antelope Valley collection center rather than into a container.
Book the pickup at home.wm.com/Lancaster or with customer service at 661-947-7197 at least 48 hours before the regular service day. A household with an account in good standing gets four free pickups a year of no more than four items each, and the accepted list is furniture, appliances, electronic waste, tree branches, clothing and scrap wood.
Paint, oil, batteries and other household hazardous material cannot go in the carts or on a bulky pile. Take them to the Antelope Valley Environmental Collection Center at 1200 West City Ranch Road in Palmdale on the first or third Saturday of the month between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., where Lancaster and Los Angeles County residents drop household hazardous and electronic waste free of charge within a per trip limit.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

Bulky items beyond the annual allowance
A household that has used its four free pickups or has more than four items to clear at once.
