The local disposal guide
Lancaster has one exclusive waste provider, WM, and a household runs three carts: recycling, organics and trash, collected weekly. The City gives residential customers with accounts in good standing four free curbside bulky item pickups a year of no more than four items each, and the accepted list is furniture, appliances, electronic waste, tree branches, clothing and scrap wood. Household hazardous and electronic waste goes free to the Antelope Valley Environmental Collection Center in Palmdale, and an account in good standing also carries two free landfill visits a year for household trash, bulky items or green waste up to one ton. Construction debris has no curbside route and moves through a hauler container instead.

The handoff matters
Roll the carts into the street against the curb with the handles facing the home and at least three feet from other carts and objects, out by 6 a.m. on the collection day, and bring them in after service. Close every lid tight, because trash, organics and recyclables left outside the carts are not collected and overflow may draw an additional charge.
