  1. Check what your delivery includes.

If a new mattress is arriving, check whether your retailer is taking the old one. If you need Dropcurb, choose a day when you can have it outside. A delivery window and a pickup day are different arrangements.

  2. Arrange the trip outside.

Plan for doorways, elevators and interior stairs before pickup day. You arrange any indoor carrying. Use a permitted outdoor location and keep entrances and the walking path open.

  3. Make the right mattress easy to find.

Mattresses and box springs

Accepted with preparation

Mattresses are recycled free at the Salinas Valley Recycles sites, up to ten in recyclable condition, and they are also named as bulky items for the yearly city pickup.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. No charge for up to ten mattresses or box springs in recyclable condition at Johnson Canyon Landfill, the Jolon Road Transfer Station or the Madison Lane Recycling Center, and no charge for a mattress on the one bulky pickup a single-family home gets each year. An eleventh mattress or one in unacceptable condition is charged $5.00 each.
When & how
Drop the mattress at the Madison Lane Recycling Center, open Monday to Friday 7am to 4pm and Saturday 8am to 4pm, at the Johnson Canyon Landfill, open Monday to Friday 7am to 4pm and Saturday and Sunday 8am to 4pm, or schedule the city pickup through Republic Services of Salinas at (831) 775-3840.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress dry and clean, because a mattress that is wet, damaged or otherwise in unacceptable condition is not free and is charged per piece. Separate mattresses and box springs from other waste so the site can count them for recycling.

Put bulky items in the street against the curb, and only on a scheduled day

The Salinas bulky pickup requires items to be placed in the street against the curb and away from cars, trees, parked cars and overhead wires. Keep loose or bagged trash, carpet, construction materials, wood, paint, batteries, chemicals and hazardous waste out of the load, because the free pickup refuses them, and never leave a large item at the curb on a day when no collection is scheduled.

Sort and cover a self-haul load before the scale house

At a Salinas Valley Recycles facility the charge depends on the material and the weight, so keep mattresses and box springs separate from other waste to stay inside the free ten mattress allowance, keep appliances apart from mixed debris, and separate concrete, asphalt, clean wood and green waste onto their own lines. Secure the load, because an untarped load is charged an additional 50 percent of the fee, and pay by cash, check or card at the scale.

Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Mattress removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Salinas.

How much does mattress removal cost in Salinas?

The price depends on the mattress size you choose. A queen mattress is $99 as the first item and $30 as an additional item. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Add any box spring or frame separately, then review your total and any applicable tax before payment.

Can I book same-day mattress pickup in Salinas?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates shown at checkout. Have the mattress outside and accessible according to your confirmation. Your booking is for a day rather than an exact arrival time, and we text you when your hauler is on the way.

Is my box spring or bed frame included in mattress removal?

The mattress price covers the mattress only. Add your box spring, bed frame or adjustable base separately if those are going too. Choose the size and type that match each item. The combined price appears before booking.

Will you carry my mattress downstairs or out of my apartment?

Dropcurb starts outside. You arrange to move the mattress out of your apartment and down interior stairs before pickup. We load it and take it away from an accessible outdoor spot. Check your building’s access rules before arranging the move outside.

Can you pick up my old mattress when my new one arrives?

You can choose an offered pickup day around your replacement delivery. First check whether the retailer already includes old-mattress removal, and arrange who will bring it outside if needed. Dropcurb books a pickup day, not the retailer’s delivery window. Contact us before booking if access is limited to a short time.

Are mattresses free to recycle in Salinas?

Yes, up to ten mattresses or box springs in recyclable condition are accepted at no charge at the Madison Lane Recycling Center, Johnson Canyon Landfill or the Jolon Road Transfer Station. An eleventh mattress, or one in unacceptable condition such as a wet or badly damaged mattress, is charged per piece. A mattress can also go out on the free yearly bulky pickup for a single-family home.Official guidance
