A refrigerator or freezer may incur a freon service fee, which the city does not publish, so ask Athens for the amount when the pickup is scheduled.

Unincorporated addresses are told to contact the County of Ventura instead.

Can you pick up my old mattress when my new one arrives?+
You can choose an offered pickup day around your replacement delivery. First check whether the retailer already includes old-mattress removal, and arrange who will bring it outside if needed. How many large items can a household put out each year?+

Can a mattress go out with the regular trash?+

What happens at the household hazardous waste facility?+
The city facility at 2010 Conejo Center Drive in Newbury Park takes paint, solvents, pesticides, pool chemicals, batteries, used oil, antifreeze, propane cylinders, fluorescent bulbs and electronics from residents of Thousand Oaks and unincorporated Ventura County on Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. An appointment is required, online registration closes at 5 p.m. the day before, a load is limited to 15 gallons or 125 pounds, and Clean Harbors schedules appointments at 800-356-8570.Official guidance
What is free landfill day and who can use it?+
The city opens the Calabasas Landfill at 5300 Lost Hills Road in Agoura Hills from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on published dates, which are March 28, June 20 and September 26 in 2026, for Thousand Oaks residents who are current Athens customers. A resident with identification may bring up to two loads of trash, green waste, concrete, dirt, asphalt, bulky items or construction material in a car or pickup, and up to five loose passenger tires, with no late entry and no commercial or landscaping loads.Official guidance
Do apartments and complexes with shared bins get the same service?+
Multi family dwellings with individual carts are covered by the single family rate sheet and by the same two collections and six item large item allowance, but a complex with centralized bin service is billed under a separate multi family and mixed use rate schedule.
