The local disposal guide
Tracy runs a three-cart curbside program collected by Tracy Disposal, with waste and organics picked up every week and recycling every other week, and carts out by 4 a.m. on the collection day. Large items move on two city programs: an annual residential clean-up that gives each eligible property one free scheduled pickup a calendar year for ten bags plus two large items such as appliances, mattress sets or sofas, and an appliance voucher that covers two large appliances a year at no charge. Everything beyond that goes to the Tracy Material Recovery Facility on South MacArthur Drive, which publishes its own price list for loads, appliances, mattresses and electronic waste, and household hazardous waste goes to the free San Joaquin County facility in Stockton.

Tracy runs a three cart curbside program. The blue recycling cart takes clean, dry recyclables, the gray cart takes everyday trash, and the organics cart takes food scraps, yard material and food soiled paper. Waste and organics are collected every week and recycling every other week.
Each residential property on the three container program gets one free scheduled clean-up pickup a calendar year. The allowance is ten 32 gallon trash bags or the equivalent plus two large furniture items, which the city describes as appliances, mattress sets, sofas or any combination of two large furniture items.
A sofa is one of the city's own examples of the two large furniture items allowed in the annual clean-up, so a couch leaves on the free scheduled pickup, either on its own or paired with a second large item.
A mattress set is one of the city's clean-up examples, and the Tracy Material Recovery Facility also runs a mattress recycling program that accepts up to six mattress, box spring or futon pad units per day per vehicle at no charge.
Appliances are named both in the annual clean-up examples and in the city's appliance disposal voucher, which covers two large appliances a calendar year at no charge for a household that receives garbage billing through the city.
A refrigerator is named both in the clean-up special handling notice and in the appliance voucher, and the material recovery facility publishes a separate lower-volume rate for refrigeration units that require refrigerant discharge, which is explicit acceptance with a published price rather than a gap.
Electronic devices and components must not go in any cart, and the hauler routes them to an approved electronics recycling or household hazardous waste facility. The Tracy Material Recovery Facility takes them by item, with the screen items free and other devices charged.
A television or monitor is accepted free at the Tracy Material Recovery Facility, limited to five per day, and a television can also go out with the annual clean-up as long as Tracy Disposal is notified in advance, which the city lists as an item needing special handling.
Construction and demolition material is not part of the ten bag and two item clean-up allowance, and the material recovery facility prices those loads by weight rather than at the flat minimum, so a renovation load goes to the facility or into a rented container.
Exercise equipment is named explicitly in the Tracy Material Recovery Facility price list, which places it with other small appliances and gives it a published per item rate.
Hazardous waste is not accepted at the Tracy Material Recovery Facility, so household paint, chemicals and other hazardous products go to the free San Joaquin County facility in Stockton. The Tracy facility still takes batteries, bulbs, oil, filters and sharps from households.
The handoff matters
Put the load neatly at the curb in front of the service address no later than 4:00 a.m. on the scheduled day and no earlier than the night before, as the city code requires, and keep it out of the sidewalk and gutter. The allowance is ten 32 gallon bags or the equivalent plus two large furniture items, and Tracy Disposal has to be told in advance about an appliance, white good, television, freezer or refrigerator. Tell customer service if the pick-up point is an alley or driveway rather than the street.
Annual residential bulky items pick-up programRoll the carts out by 4:00 a.m. on the regular collection day, keep recyclables clean and dry with no bags, flatten cardboard, and keep food scraps and yard material in the organics cart. Recycling runs every other week, with the west side of Tracy Boulevard on the highlighted weeks and the east side on the alternating weeks, and string lights never go in a cart.
