Desks and bookshelves
Choose by construction, not height alone. A basic desk is different from a heavy desk with a substantial body. A tall, lightweight bookcase can still be a standard bookshelf. Empty it first.

Furniture is one of the normal items the District takes on its monthly bulky item service, and each household may set out a maximum of two items every thirty days.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. Ratepayers in the Midway City and Westminster service areas. The District lists the Bulky Item Program among the services provided at no extra cost, with a limit of two items per household every thirty days.
When & how
Call the District at (714) 893-3553 or email info@midwaycitysanitaryca.gov at least one week before the service you want. The program runs monthly rather than on the refuse collection day.
Get it ready
Keep the set-out to two items. Glass, mirrors, cabinets, a counter over six feet, a work bench over six feet, a vanity, a sink, a tub and a wood pallet are all on the District's do-not-pick-up list.
Under Ordinance No. 53 of the Midway City Sanitary District, no curbside container may be placed next to a street more than 24 hours before collection time, every container must be removed from the street within 12 hours after collection, and containers must be kept where they are not visible from the street.
The District observes New Year's Day, President's Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. When the holiday falls on or before your service day, refuse collection is one day later for the entire week, and service does not change on any other holiday.
