Golden takes couches and furniture through the Pay-As-You-Throw large item pickup. The City's acceptable list names chairs, a sofa, a recliner, a love seat, a desk, a table, a coffee table, a game table, an end table, a dresser, a recliner, a porcelain sink, a porcelain toilet, a porcelain tub, bundled carpet, doors, a baby wooden crib, a lawn mower and a water bed, and a whole garage door in four-foot sections.

No charge. Each Golden household receives one free large item pickup per calendar year through the Pay-As-You-Throw program. Additional items can be scheduled year-round for a fee that the City does not publish, so confirm the charge when the pickup is booked.
When & how
Large item pickup is requested by calling the City's collection line at 5280 Waste Solutions. Regular collection runs weekly on the cart schedule, and the City asks that carts be put out on the morning of collection rather than the night before because of bear activity.

Because a pickup is limited to what the City lists as acceptable, check the item against the published list before booking. Bundle carpet, and keep cast iron, cement, steel, dirt, rocks, bricks, stumps and windshield glass out of the request, because each of those is refused.

The City of Golden is asking residents to reduce overnight food sources because the community is seeing increased bear activity. Put carts out on the morning of collection, clean them periodically to cut lingering odors, move a cart to a secure location if a bear has already found food in it, and if a wildlife-resistant strap or latch is used, unlock or unlatch it before service so the lid is free to open.
