Filled bags and boxes
Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.
Empty cardboard and containers
Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.
Furniture and other larger items
Add the actual larger item alongside your bags and boxes, such as a sofa, chair or mattress. It has its own price and preparation. Keep construction materials and items needing special handling out of ordinary household bags.

Lone Tree does not run a bulky program of its own. Waste Connections collects large items by special arrangement with the resident and the resident pays for it, with no published item list or price.
City cost & eligibility
The city states that its contractor picks up large items for an additional fee and that the collection is by special arrangement paid for by the resident, and the resident guide says the same. Neither the city pages nor the 2026 brochure publish an accepted item list, a size limit or a price, so confirm all three with Waste Connections at 303-288-2100 before anything goes to the curb.
When & how
Call Waste Connections at 303-288-2100 to arrange the collection. The city's yard clean up weeks are the only time material may sit beside the bins without an arrangement, and those weeks cover branches and bagged yard waste only.
Get it ready
Keep the item out of the regular containers, because the city does not collect material outside them, and do not put anything at the curb until the arrangement is confirmed. Ask whether the item has to be at the curb on the regular collection day or on a separate visit.
A couch leaves through the paid large item arrangement with Waste Connections, or it can be hauled to the county landfill, which takes furniture for its published base rate.
City cost & eligibility
The city publishes no furniture list or price and routes large items to a special arrangement paid for by the resident, so confirm acceptance and the charge with Waste Connections at 303-288-2100. Self hauling to Sedalia Landfill is the alternative with a published rate, and that landfill lists furniture as acceptable material.
When & how
Call 303-288-2100 to arrange the collection, or take the piece to Sedalia Landfill at 5970 North Hwy 85 in Sedalia, open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Get it ready
Keep the piece out of the containers, because nothing left outside them is collected on a normal day, and do not set it out before the arrangement is confirmed. A self hauled load has to be taken to the landfill during its open hours, and no hand unloads are allowed in the half hour before closing.
A mattress is not collected curbside. The two published routes are the paid large item arrangement with the hauler and self haul, with a mattress recycler and the county landfill both charging by the piece.
City cost & eligibility
From $40 per piece to recycle a mattress or box spring at Spring Back Colorado, the recycler the Sedalia Landfill sheet lists for bedding. The city's large item collection is a paid arrangement with Waste Connections and the price is not published, so confirm it at 303-288-2100. Sedalia Landfill accepts mattresses and charges by the piece, with the amount printed on its own acceptable items sheet, and Spring Back Colorado takes drop-offs and schedules pickups for mattresses and box springs at 720-515-1328.
When & how
Call Waste Connections at 303-288-2100 to arrange a collection, call Spring Back Colorado at 720-515-1328 to drop off or schedule a pickup, or drive the mattress to Sedalia Landfill during its open hours.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress out of the containers and off the curb until a route is confirmed, keep it dry, and expect a per piece charge whichever route is used. A self hauled load has to be taken during the landfill's open hours.
Appliances go out only through the paid large item arrangement, and the county landfill takes them with a Freon recovery charge, alongside appliance pickup and drop-off services the county lists.
City cost & eligibility
The city publishes no appliance price and routes large items to a paid arrangement with Waste Connections, so confirm it at 303-288-2100. The county alternative list includes Sedalia Landfill, which accepts appliances and charges separately for Freon recovery, a Castle Rock pickup service, a free metal pickup service that is EPA certified to evacuate refrigerants, and the Habitat ReStore, which accepts appliance drop-offs and offers free pickup with a donation encouraged.
When & how
Call Waste Connections at 303-288-2100 for the collection, or use one of the county listed alternatives. Sedalia Landfill is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Get it ready
Empty the appliance and keep it out of the containers. Anything holding refrigerant has to go to a route that recovers it, and the county landfill charges separately for that recovery.
Construction material cannot go in the curbside containers or on a large item collection. A project uses a permitted dumpster or hauls to the county landfill, which accepts debris for its published base rate.
City cost & eligibility
The city provides no curbside route for construction and demolition material. The alternatives are a rented dumpster under the city's permit rules or self haul to Sedalia Landfill, which accepts wood, aluminum, steel, concrete, shingles, drywall, lumber, doors, cabinets, windows, fencing, inert solids, plastic and cardboard and charges its published base rate by weight with extra charges for shingles, pull offs, dig outs and special burial.
When & how
Order the dumpster or arrange the hauling before the project starts. A dumpster on private property needs a temporary permit unless there is an active building permit, a dumpster in the street or right of way needs a right-of-way permit from Public Works, and a dumpster may not exceed 30 consecutive days in a calendar year unless it is tied to active construction or a building permit.
Get it ready
Material such as dirt, mulch, grass clippings and sand cannot be placed in the street, and the landfill refuses paint, liquids, food waste, batteries, electronic waste, hazardous material and friable asbestos, so separate those out before the load leaves the site.
In Lone Tree, only the city containers are collected
Everything goes inside the Waste Connections containers, which go out by 7 a.m. with about two feet between them. Bags, personal bins and debris left at the curb or beside the containers are not collected, with the only exception being the four week yard clean up windows in the spring and fall when branches and bagged yard waste may sit beside the bins.
Lone Tree has no free bulky pickup. Large items are collected by Waste Connections only by special arrangement with the resident and at the resident's cost, so call 303-288-2100 first and wait for the collection to be confirmed before anything goes to the curb.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.
A household with furniture, a mattress, an appliance or exercise equipment that cannot go in the containers.
Cost & conditions
The city states the contractor collects large items by special arrangement paid for by the resident, and no price or item list is published on the city pages or in the 2026 brochure, so confirm both with Waste Connections at 303-288-2100 before the item goes out.
Arrange it
Call Waste Connections at 303-288-2100, agree the collection day and the placement, and set the item out only after the arrangement is confirmed.
This is a paid service with no published acceptance list, and the city's yard clean up weeks do not substitute for it because those weeks cover branches and bagged yard waste only.

Before you book
A few things worth knowing.
Bulk junk removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Lone Tree.
How much does bulk junk removal cost in Lone Tree?+
A trash bag is $59 as the first item and $10 additional. A filled household box is $59 as the first item. Add your actual items and quantities to see the combined price before booking. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; any applicable sales tax is shown before payment.
Can you pick up bags of junk today?+
Book by 2pm in the pickup address’s local time for same-day pickup. Available dates appear at checkout. Have the booked bags and boxes outside and accessible according to your confirmation. You receive pickup updates and completion photos; the booking is for a day rather than an exact arrival time.
Do I count every object inside a bag or box?+
No. Count the filled bags or boxes using the matching choice. Books and media go in Filled household box; clothes, bedding and shoes go in Bag of clothes & bedding; packed toys have a Box of toys choice. Empty cardboard is separate, with individual empty boxes and bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Heavy, oversized or unusual contents need a photo review before booking.
Can you pick up a small loose pile of household junk?+
Yes. Estimate how many trash bags the small household pile would fill, and bag or box as much as possible. Select furniture and other larger items separately. There is no extra charge just because the pile is loose. Send a photo first if the count or contents are unclear. A household Dumpster Bag choice does not accept construction debris.
Can I book bags, boxes and furniture together?+
Yes. Select the bags and boxes, then add each larger item using its own catalog choice. The booking shows one combined price for the selected items. Move everything to an accessible outdoor spot before pickup; indoor carrying and sorting are not included. Keep anything you want to retain apart from the booked items and identify what goes in your photos and notes.
Does Lone Tree have a free bulky item pickup?+
No. The city's free program covers the weekly containers and two seasonal yard clean up windows. Large items are collected by Waste Connections only by special arrangement with the resident, and the resident pays for that collection, so the price and the accepted items come from the hauler at 303-288-2100.Official guidance
What is the difference between the yard clean up and a bulky pickup?+
The yard clean up is a citywide window in the spring and fall when five bundles of branches up to four feet long and ten bags of yard waste up to 40 pounds each may be left beside the bins on the regular collection day. A bulky pickup is the paid arrangement for furniture, appliances and other large items at any time of year.Official guidance
How do I get rid of a couch in Lone Tree?+
Either arrange a paid large item collection with Waste Connections at 303-288-2100, or haul the couch to Sedalia Landfill at 5970 North Hwy 85, which lists furniture among its acceptable material and charges its published base rate by weight. The city itself has no curbside furniture collection.Official guidance
Can I just leave furniture at the curb?+
No. The city states that no bags or debris left at the curb or outside the Waste Connections containers are picked up, except during the designated yard clean up weeks, and those weeks cover branches and yard waste rather than furniture.Official guidance
How do I dispose of a mattress in Lone Tree?+
There is no free curbside mattress pickup. The options are a paid large item collection arranged with Waste Connections at 303-288-2100, self haul to Sedalia Landfill at 5970 North Hwy 85, which charges by the piece, or Spring Back Colorado, the mattress recycler the county sheet lists, at 720-515-1328.Official guidance
Will the county take a mattress at GreenWorks?+
No. The GreenWorks household hazardous waste program accepts only the chemicals and batteries on its published list, and the county's own page points mattresses and box springs at Spring Back Colorado and at Sedalia Landfill instead.Official guidance
How do I get rid of an old refrigerator or washer?+
Arrange a paid large item collection with Waste Connections at 303-288-2100, take it to Sedalia Landfill where appliances are accepted with a Freon recovery charge, or use one of the appliance services the county lists, including a free metal pickup that is certified to handle refrigerants and the Habitat ReStore, which takes appliance drop-offs.Official guidance
Can an appliance go in the trash container?+
No. The city's program is built around the Waste Connections containers, and large items are handled as a separate paid arrangement rather than as cart waste. Appliances also appear on the not accepted list of the household hazardous waste pickup service, which routes them to the bulky collection or a recycling alternative.Official guidance
How do I clear construction debris in Lone Tree?+
Not through the curbside containers, because everything has to be inside the Waste Connections containers, and not through the household pickup programs. A project either rents a dumpster under the city's permit rules or hauls the material to Sedalia Landfill at 5970 North Hwy 85, which takes construction and demolition debris at its published base rate.Official guidance
Do I need a permit for a dumpster?+
Yes, unless an active building permit already covers it. A dumpster on private property needs a temporary permit, a dumpster in the street or right of way needs a right-of-way permit from Public Works, dirt, mulch, grass clippings and sand cannot be placed in the street, and a dumpster is limited to 30 consecutive days in a calendar year unless it is tied to active construction or a building permit.Official guidance
Who collects trash in Lone Tree?+
The City of Lone Tree contracts Waste Connections to collect curbside trash and recycling for single-family homes, and the city pays for the service. Waste Connections customer service is 303-288-2100, the city trash line is 720-509-1212, and the program email is trash@cityoflonetree.com.Official guidance
What is included in the Lone Tree service?+
Weekly trash, every other week recycling, up to three containers with no delivery or pickup fee, a free special needs collection for households that cannot move the containers, and two yard clean up windows a year for branches and bagged yard waste. Large item collection is the exception, because it is arranged with the hauler and paid for by the resident.Official guidance
Why does Lone Tree pay for trash service?+
The city describes itself as one of only two Colorado cities that provide free residential trash and recycling, and it funds the program through its contract with Waste Connections rather than billing households a monthly collection charge. Extra containers beyond the third are billed by the hauler at a monthly rate.Official guidance
Do HOA or metro district rules apply?+
The resident guide notes that a homeowners association may offer additional services or maintain design review committees with rules that apply to a neighborhood, so a household should check with its HOA before changing container placement or arranging a large item collection.Official guidance
Where do plastic bags go?+
Not in the recycling container. The city and the hauler direct plastic bags and film to participating grocery or retail stores with plastic film recycling bins near the entrance, and the curbside recycling list refuses plastic bags along with styrofoam and tanglers.Official guidance
What if I have material the city will not take at all?+
The county routes handle most of it. Hazardous waste and electronics go to the GreenWorks site in Sedalia by appointment, construction debris, furniture, appliances, tires and mattresses go to Sedalia Landfill next door, and the county also publishes appliance and metal services, including a free metal pickup certified for refrigerants.Official guidance
