Altamonte Springs collects refuse twice a week on a semi-automated system, on Monday and Thursday west of I-4 and Tuesday and Friday east of it. Households may place up to two city-approved containers out per collection day, either city carts, personal carts under 64 gallons with a manufacturer installed lift bar and wheels, or bear-resistant containers, and all items go inside the cart with the lid closed. Carts go out before 7 a.m. on the collection day and come back in by 7 p.m., carts cannot be used for yard waste or recycling, and mixed waste is not collected.
