Altamonte Springs collects refuse itself twice a week through a semi-automated cart system, on Monday and Thursday west of I-4 and Tuesday and Friday east of it, and it does not take mattresses, furniture, large appliances, renovation material, electronics or household hazardous waste on those routes. Large household items leave at the free Spring Cleanup, which runs for two weeks each March, or through a paid special pickup booked with the Solid Waste Division. Electronics, tires and household hazardous waste go to the Seminole County Central Transfer Station on State Road 419 in Longwood, where the hazardous waste tunnel and the electronics drop-off are free for county residents, including city residents, and construction and demolition material is accepted at the county landfill in Geneva by weight.
