Tires

Not on the regular city route

Tires are refused in the curbside bulk program and landfilling them is banned in Florida, so a tire goes to the county transfer station at a published rate.

City cost & eligibility
From $3 for an auto or light truck tire in a mixed load or fewer than three at the county transfer station. The county transfer station also publishes 140.00 per ton for tires, 4.00 each for truck tires of 17 inches or greater in a mixed load or fewer than three, and 275.00 per ton for off road and agricultural tires. The city refuses tires in the curbside bulk program and Florida bans landfilling tires, so confirm the current rate and which county site takes the tire before hauling.
When & how
Take the tire to the Alachua County Leveda Brown Environmental Park and Transfer Station on a weekday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. or Saturday between 7 a.m. and 12 p.m., or ask the retailer that sold the tires about a take back.
Get it ready
Keep tires out of the curbside bulk pile and out of the garbage cart, separate them from other material in the load because the county asks for separated loads, and cover the load for transport or risk a littering fine.

Interior remodeling debris goes out with the weekly bulk collection by 7 a.m. on the collection day and no more than two cubic yards a week, and anything larger or exterior has to be arranged with the contractor before the work starts.

Interior items such as toilets, sinks, cabinets, carpet, rugs, shower doors, mirrors, tiles and glass tabletops are accepted, with carpet rolled no longer than five feet and no heavier than 40 pounds per roll and small scraps in reusable containers rather than bags at 40 pounds or less and two cubic yards or less in total.
