The local disposal guide

Will the city
take it?

Greenacres collects with Waste Management of Palm Beach under a City contract, and every residential property owner pays a mandatory solid waste assessment that appears on the property tax bill alongside a separate disposal charge levied by the Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County. Service runs Monday through Saturday between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., except Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day with no makeup day, and the pickup days depend on the neighborhood. Garbage goes in the City can within six feet of the traveled roadway, while furniture and appliances go out as bulk next to the garbage on the scheduled bulk day with their doors removed. Construction and demolition debris from minor home repairs is collected in a limited way, up to four cubic yards a collection, and motor oil, batteries, pesticides, paint and electronics are not collected at the curb at all but go to the Solid Waste Authority facilities.

Weekly garbage and the residential assessment

Accepted with preparation

Residential collection is mandatory and funded by an annual assessment on the property tax bill, with kitchen and household waste going out twice a week in the City can.

City cost & eligibility
$277.3 for the published annual residential solid waste collection assessment for curbside pickup effective October 1, 2026, before the four per cent tax collector discount for paying the bill in November. Owners of record of residential property in the City, billed with the property tax. A separate disposal charge levied by the Solid Waste Authority appears on the same bill, and containerized dumpster service for a parcel is assessed at its own published rate.
When & how
Garbage is collected twice a week on either Monday and Thursday or Tuesday and Friday depending on the neighbourhood, and all solid waste service runs Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., except Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day with no makeup day. Put the can out before 7 a.m.
Get it ready
All residential kitchen and household waste goes in the City-provided can, placed within six feet of the travelled roadway, and garbage left outside the can will not be picked up. Keep yard waste and vegetation out of the garbage, because the two streams are collected separately.

Furniture, appliances and bulk trash

Accepted with preparation

Furniture and appliances go out as bulk next to the garbage on the neighbourhood's scheduled bulk day, with the doors removed from any appliance.

City cost & eligibility
Bulk collection is part of the assessed residential service and the City publishes no separate per item charge for it, while it does publish a contracted special service fee that Waste Management charges when a load does not meet the collection guidelines. Confirm with the hauler at 561-471-6110 whether the load qualifies for the scheduled bulk day or attracts that fee.
When & how
Put the items next to the garbage on the scheduled bulk pickup day for the neighbourhood, which the City lists on its schedule table, and have everything out before 7 a.m.
Get it ready
Remove the doors from any refrigerator, range, washer or dryer before it goes out, because the City requires that for appliances. Keep construction and demolition material within its own four cubic yard limit, cut and roll carpeting to four foot lengths under fifty pounds, and keep hazardous products, paint, batteries and electronics out of the pile entirely.

Appliances and white goods

Accepted with preparation

Refrigerators, ranges, washers and dryers are named in the bulk rule and go next to the garbage on the scheduled bulk day, with the doors removed.

City cost & eligibility
An appliance is collected as bulk inside the assessed residential service, which publishes no per item charge, so confirm with Waste Management at 561-471-6110 whether the unit qualifies for the scheduled bulk day or attracts the contracted special service fee because of its size or condition.
When & how
Set the unit next to the garbage on the scheduled bulk pickup day for the neighbourhood and have it out before 7 a.m.
Get it ready
Remove the doors before the appliance goes out, which the City requires for a refrigerator, range, washer or dryer, and keep the unit out of the garbage can and the recycling bins. Keep any refrigerant question with the hauler, because a sealed unit is collected whole rather than emptied on site.

Televisions and electronics

Accepted with preparation

Electronics are not collected at the curb and go instead to the Solid Waste Authority collection facilities in Palm Beach County.

City cost & eligibility
The City states that electronics are not collected curbside and must be taken to the Solid Waste Authority collection facilities, and it does not publish a fee for the household hazardous waste facility, so confirm the accepted devices and any charge with the authority at 561-687-1100 before the trip.
When & how
Take the devices to the Solid Waste Authority Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 6161 N Jog Road, West Palm Beach, FL 33412, after checking the current hours with the authority.
Get it ready
Keep electronics out of the garbage can, the bulk pile and the recycling bins. Clear personal data from a computer, phone or drive before it leaves the property, and bring batteries, motor oil, filters, pesticides, chemicals and paint on the same trip because they take the same route.

Construction and demolition debris

Special rules apply

C&D debris from minor home maintenance is collected on the scheduled bulk day, limited to four cubic yards a collection per dwelling unit.

City cost & eligibility
The City publishes a four cubic yard limit per collection per dwelling unit but no per load charge, and it also publishes a contracted special service fee from Waste Management for debris that does not meet the guidelines. Confirm whether the load is inside the limit, and what the special service costs if it is not, with the hauler at 561-471-6110.
When & how
Put the debris out on the scheduled bulk pickup day for the neighbourhood, and keep the load inside the four cubic yard limit per collection for the dwelling unit.
Get it ready
The accepted list includes drywall, lumber, fencing, roofing material, concrete blocks and paneling, and carpeting has to be cut into four foot lengths, rolled up and kept under fifty pounds. Material over the limit, or from a larger project, needs the hauler's special service, another private hauler, or a trip to the authority facilities at 6600 North Jog Road where the load is charged for disposal and paid in cash.
Solid waste and recycling collection services page with the contracted hauler and contacts, the pickup window, the garbage, bulk, construction, yard waste, recycling and hazardous waste rules

Yard waste and vegetation

Accepted with preparation

Routine single-family yard waste is collected on the neighbourhood's vegetation day, bagged or bundled within the published weight and length limits.

City cost & eligibility
Yard waste is part of the assessed residential collection and the City publishes no separate charge for a compliant routine load, while it does publish the hauler's contracted special service fee for material outside the guidelines. Confirm with Waste Management at 561-471-6110 if the load is larger than routine maintenance.
When & how
Yard waste goes out on the neighbourhood's vegetation day, which the City lists on its schedule table, and everything is out before 7 a.m. because service runs from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Get it ready
Grass clippings and leaves go in bags or containers weighing no more than fifty pounds, and tree limbs and palm fronds must be cut to six feet or shorter and weigh no more than fifty pounds each. Stack the material at the curb or roadside, away from the garbage and the bulk pile and clear of the roadway.

Garbage goes in the can within six feet of the roadway

All residential kitchen and household waste goes in the City-provided can, placed within six feet of the travelled roadway, and garbage left outside the can is not picked up. Yard clippings and vegetation stay out of the garbage, and the can is out before 7 a.m. because service runs from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday except Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day, with no makeup day.

Bulk items wait for the neighbourhood bulk day

Furniture and appliances go next to the garbage on the scheduled bulk pickup day for the neighbourhood, and any refrigerator, range, washer or dryer must have its doors removed first. Construction debris from minor home repairs shares that day but is capped at four cubic yards per collection per dwelling unit, and carpeting has to be cut to four foot lengths, rolled and under fifty pounds.

Waste Management of Palm Beach under contract with the City of Greenacres, with disposal through the Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County

Hauler special service for a load outside the guidelines

A household whose bulk, construction or yard load does not meet the published collection guidelines.

Cost & conditions
The City states that Waste Management is not required to collect debris that does not meet the guidelines and that a resident can contact the hauler for its contracted special service fee, but it does not publish the amount, so confirm the price with Waste Management at 561-471-6110 before the load goes out.
Arrange it
Call Waste Management at 561-471-6110, describe the load, and arrange the special service, or correct the material and wait for the next scheduled service day.

This is a contracted service rather than a City program, so the accepted material and the price are set by the hauler, and hazardous products, paint, batteries and electronics still cannot be added to the load.

See the collection guidelines

Waste Management of Palm Beach under contract with the City of Greenacres, with disposal through the Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County

Self-haul to the Solid Waste Authority facilities

A household that would rather drive the load than wait or pay for a special service.

Cost & conditions
The City tells residents who transport material to the facilities that they will be charged for the disposal cost and that payment in cash is required, but it publishes no rate, so confirm the charge with the authority before loading.
Arrange it
Drive the load to the Solid Waste Authority facilities at 6600 North Jog Road in West Palm Beach, west of the Turnpike between 45th Street and the Beeline Highway, and pay in cash.

Cash is required at the landfill, the load is charged for disposal, and household hazardous waste still belongs at the Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 6161 N Jog Road rather than in a general load.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Greenacres collects with Waste Management of Palm Beach and bills a mandatory annual assessment with the property tax, so a household hauls only what the curbside rules refuse or what falls outside the collection guidelines. Motor oil, batteries, filters, pesticides, chemicals, paint and electronics are not collected curbside and go to the Solid Waste Authority Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 6161 N Jog Road in West Palm Beach, and sharps never go in the garbage or the recycling but use the Palm Beach County Health Department depository program on 561-837-5900, with exchange locations in West Palm Beach, Belle Glade, Lantana and Delray Beach. A load that does not meet the curbside guidelines can be corrected and put out on the next service day, collected by the hauler as a contracted special service for a fee, taken by another private hauler, or driven to the authority facilities at 6600 North Jog Road, where the disposal cost is charged and payment in cash is required. You can book while your items are still inside. Arrange any indoor carrying and have everything outside and accessible according to your confirmation. We load and haul it away from there. Contact us before booking if your property has restricted access.

Where does the garbage can go on pickup day?

Within six feet of the travelled roadway, in the City-provided can, and out before 7 a.m. because service runs from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Garbage placed outside the can is not picked up, and yard clippings and vegetation should not be mixed into it.Official guidance

Which days is my neighbourhood collected?

It depends on the neighbourhood. Garbage is either Monday and Thursday or Tuesday and Friday, and the bulk, recycling and vegetation days vary by neighbourhood between Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, so the City publishes a schedule table listing each neighbourhood and its four pickup days.Official guidance

Is there collection on a holiday?

Service runs Monday through Saturday except Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day, and the City states there is no makeup day for those two holidays. Everything else follows the regular neighbourhood schedule.Official guidance

Where do I get a garbage can or a recycling bin?

Garbage cans, new or replacement, come from Waste Management at 561-471-6110, and recycling bins come from the Solid Waste Authority at 561-697-2700. The City's Public Works Department takes service complaints at 561-642-2072 or 561-642-2071.Official guidance

How do furniture and appliances go out in Greenacres?

They go next to the garbage on the scheduled bulk pickup day for the neighbourhood, and any refrigerator, range, washer or dryer must have its doors removed first. Put everything out before 7 a.m. on the scheduled day.Official guidance

Will the hauler take a mattress?

The bulk rule names furniture and appliances such as refrigerators, ranges, washers and dryers, and a mattress is not named either way, so call Waste Management at 561-471-6110 and confirm the piece before setting it out on the bulk day.Official guidance

Can exercise equipment go out with the bulk pile?

Exercise equipment is not named in the City's bulky rule, so describe the machine to Waste Management at 561-471-6110 before the bulk day and confirm whether it qualifies or needs the contracted special service instead.Official guidance

What happens if a load does not meet the guidelines?

Waste Management is not required to collect debris that does not meet the guidelines. The resident can correct the load and put it out on the next service day, pay the hauler's contracted special service fee, use another private hauler, or take the material to the Solid Waste Authority facilities at 6600 North Jog Road, where a disposal cost applies and payment in cash is required.Official guidance

Do appliance doors have to come off?

Yes. The City states that furniture and appliances such as refrigerators, ranges, washers and dryers must have the doors removed and be placed next to the garbage on the scheduled pickup day. Leave the doors off through the collection.Official guidance

Is a refrigerator handled differently?

A refrigerator is named in the same sentence as a range, washer and dryer, so it is collected as bulk with the doors removed. The City publishes no separate refrigerant charge, so confirm the unit with Waste Management at 561-471-6110 when the bulk day comes around.Official guidance

Where do televisions and computers go in Greenacres?

To the Solid Waste Authority collection facilities, because the City states that electronics are not collected curbside. The Household Hazardous Waste Facility is at 6161 N Jog Road in West Palm Beach, FL 33412, and the number is 561-687-1100.Official guidance

What else goes to the authority instead of the curb?
