When & how
Take the device to a Home Chemical and Recycling Center. The center on N. Jog Road in West Palm Beach is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., closed Sunday, with other Saturdays self service drop off only, and there is no curbside collection of hazardous waste or electronic waste anywhere in the county.
Get it ready
Keep electronics out of the garbage and the recycling bin, because the hauler lists electronic waste as non acceptable in the trash container. Batteries should be treated separately: alkaline batteries may go in the garbage, while lithium button, single use and rechargeable batteries have to be taken to a center, and the terminals should be protected in transit. Keep products upright in the trunk or truck bed and never mix chemicals.
Paint cans, pesticides, pool chemicals, engine oil, tires, auto parts and construction or demolition debris are refused curbside, and so are medical and electronic waste and household hazardous waste in the trash. They go to a Solid Waste Authority Home Chemical and Recycling Center or the Customer Convenience Drop-Off Center at the North County Landfill instead, where county households drop hazardous waste free and a self haul load is weighed and charged under the published fee schedule.

Household hazardous waste and electronics, including aerosols that are not empty, ammunition, flares and fireworks, automotive fluids and filters, lithium, button, rechargeable, automotive and marine batteries, paints, stains, glues and solvents, household cleaners, pesticides and fertilizers, photo chemicals, pool chemicals, propane and compressed gas cylinders, rubbing alcohol, used cooking oil, fluorescent tubes and other mercury devices, boating related waste and worn United States flags.
For Palm Beach County residents, with small businesses paying under the very small quantity generator program and commercial or industrial waste refused without that approval. Quantities per visit are capped at 30 gallons of gasoline at this center and the western Delray Beach center against 10 gallons at the others, 25 gallons of oil and 10 fluorescent bulbs. Refused: empty containers, explosives, garbage or trash, prescription medications, radioactive waste, sharps or medical waste, tires and electric vehicle batteries.
