The pile has to sit clear of sidewalks and roadways, and household hazardous waste and yard waste are not part of the collection at all. Additional bulk pickups can be ordered for an additional charge, and residents in apartments, townhomes or condos without curbside service arrange their own large item pickup with the hauler.
Garbage is collected twice a week and recycling and yard waste once a week, with carts out by 7 a.m. and at least three feet from mailboxes, utility boxes, trees and shrubs, wheels and handle facing the house. Household garbage has to be bagged inside the cart, cardboard has to be flattened, and yard waste has to be containerized in paper bags or reusable carts with no can, bag or bundle longer than four feet or heavier than fifty pounds. Appliances need preparation before they go out: the city requires the doors to be removed from a refrigerator or freezer so children cannot become trapped inside.
