The town lists refrigerators, freezers, ovens, washing machines, dehumidifiers and microwaves among the items it will collect curbside as bulky waste, with refrigerator and freezer doors removed first. Electronics recycling does not take appliances, so the curbside bulky route is the town option for them.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. Appliances collected as bulky waste are included in the monthly garbage charge on the utility bill, with no published per-item charge. Working appliances can also be offered for donation, and the town notes that donation sites require appliances in working condition.

Appliances go out with bulky waste on the household's regular garbage collection day, and bulky waste is not collected on holidays when town offices are closed.
Get it ready
Remove the doors from a refrigerator or freezer, empty the unit, and set it loose at the curb in the organized pile. Keep the total under 500 pounds, and do not take the appliance to the electronics recycling site, which refuses appliances of all sizes plus microwaves and dehumidifiers.
Bulky waste goes loose at the curb as one organized pile, out after 6 p.m. the day before or before 6 a.m. on the collection day, and never over 500 pounds. Lay material lengthwise on sloped right of ways, keep it out of boxes and non-Town carts, and call the town when glass or mirrors are involved because a hand pickup may be scheduled.

Put the items loose at the curb in one organized pile on your regular garbage collection day, using the same curbside timing as the carts, and call 309-454-9571 with questions between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Nothing over 500 pounds or from contractor work is accepted, electronics, landscape waste and brush travel on their own routes, and bulky waste is not collected on holidays when town offices are closed.

Appliances have to be in working condition, and each organization sets its own pickup and drop-off conditions, so confirm before loading a vehicle.
Self-hauling in Normal runs through the town's own Public Works yard. The self-service electronics recycling site at 1301 Warriner Street, past the main Public Works building and marked with yellow signs, takes televisions, computers, monitors, printers, scanners, receivers, video game consoles, phones and cables free from McLean County residents, and it refuses appliances, microwaves, dehumidifiers, alkaline batteries and light bulbs. Other household material has its own route: alkaline batteries go in the garbage cart or to a participating retailer, motor oil, antifreeze and used cooking oil go to Team Automotive on South Adelaide Street, compact fluorescent bulbs and tubes go to Echo Electric in Bloomington, and paint and household hazardous waste go through the Ecology Action Center and the PaintCare programme. Can you take a washing machine and dryer in one pickup?+
Yes. Add one Washing machine and one Dryer so both units are included in the price. They are separate items, even when you bought them as a set. If yours is a single combined unit or the machines still need to be unstacked, contact us before booking to confirm the scope.
Will you disconnect my appliance or carry it out?+
Dropcurb picks up appliances that are already disconnected and accessible outside at ground level. Arrange uninstallation, utility disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Can I book if the delivery company did not take my old appliance?+
Yes. Dropcurb pickup is separate from buying or installing a replacement, so you can book removal on its own. Select the old appliance, choose a pickup day and arrange for it to be disconnected and accessible outside. If your new delivery is still ahead, confirm the retailer’s haul-away arrangements before booking a separate pickup.
Will the town take a refrigerator or washer from the curb?+

Is trash collected on holidays in Normal?+
