Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

  1. Arrange any unmounting first.

Dropcurb does not remove TVs from walls or do indoor carrying. Arrange the help you need before pickup day, including the trip down interior stairs or through an elevator.

  2. Choose a permitted outdoor spot.

Use a stable, accessible location with a clear path for loading. Keep the TV separate from anything staying. Check building rules before placing it in a shared pickup area.

  3. Show us the TV that is going.

Add a location photo and access notes after booking. Follow the readiness instructions in your confirmation. For exposed broken glass or unusual damage, send a photo and check with us before booking.

Televisions and electronics

Not on the regular city route

Illinois state law requires televisions, stereos and computer equipment to be recycled, and Normal states plainly that those items will not be picked up curbside with bulky waste. They go instead to the town's self-service electronics recycling site at 1301 Warriner Street.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Self-service electronics recycling at 1301 Warriner Street is free for McLean County residents, and it is not available to businesses or to residents outside McLean County.
When & how
The self-service site is open in summer from May 4 to Labor Day, Monday to Friday 6 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and in winter from Labor Day to May 3, Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with the first Saturday of each month 8 a.m. to noon. The building is closed on Town holidays and leaving material outside posted hours is not allowed.
Get it ready
Drive past the main Public Works facility and follow the yellow signs to the electronics area, and bring help if the equipment is too heavy to handle alone because staff may not be available to unload. The site serves McLean County residents only and refuses material from businesses and from residents outside the county.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

What travels on a different route

Bags of garbage stay in the Town cart, and landscape waste and brush go out in their own piles rather than in the bulky waste. Electronics are excluded by state law and go to the self-service drop-off on Warriner Street, and debris over 500 pounds or from contractor work needs a commercial container instead of a household pile.

Self-hauling in Normal runs through the town's own Public Works yard. A flat-screen TV under 42 inches is $79 as the first item and $19 as an additional item. Larger flat screens and tube TVs have their own prices. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates offered at checkout and have the TV outside according to your confirmation. We text you when your hauler is on the way and provide photos when the pickup is done.

Will Dropcurb remove my TV from the wall or carry it downstairs?

You arrange unmounting, disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb starts at an accessible outdoor location, where we load your TV and take it away. If you need help removing a mounted TV or moving a heavy tube TV outside, arrange that separately before your pickup day.

Yes. Choose Tube TV for an older television with curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Its price is $249 as the first item and $249 as an additional item. A rear-projection television is a different item; send a photo before booking rather than choosing the tube-TV option.

Does my old TV have to work?

Your TV does not need to turn on for removal. Choose its type and size and arrange to have it outside before pickup. A non-working TV and a TV with exposed broken glass are different situations; send a photo of unusual damage so we can confirm the plan before you book.
