The Village's hauler requires one pink refuse sticker for each bag or rigid container of 30 gallons or less and two pink stickers for any item over 30 gallons, which is why a bulk item costs two stickers. Stickers are sold for 4.00 each at locations including Village Hall at 123 Madison Street, and one bulk item is collected each week with a general guideline of 50 pounds.
Some items need preparation before they leave the curb
A mattress or box spring has to be inside a plastic cover that is taped securely shut, a carpeting roll takes two stickers and cannot weigh more than 50 pounds or run longer than four feet, and an appliance collection has to be requested at least 48 hours ahead because appliances cannot go to a landfill.
Car parts, dirt and soil, concrete, tires, motor oil, pesticides, acid, gasoline, antifreeze, pool chemicals, automotive batteries, liquid paint and electronics such as computers, monitors and televisions are all prohibited in the trash, and the Village warns that collection will not be made if they are mixed into a load. Those materials move to the at-home electronics and household hazardous waste collection the Village offers to residents of single-family homes and buildings of five or fewer units.
