The local disposal guide

Will the city
take it?

Fishers runs a citywide collection contract, and every incorporated residence is in it. Republic Services collects solid waste weekly and recycling every other week on the same service day, the household gets up to three bins in any combination of trash and recycling, and all of it has to fit with the lids closed. The monthly trash charge sits on the combined utility bill rather than going to the hauler. Yard waste rides the same weekly route with an extra allowance in April and November, and a large or bulky item is a special pickup arranged with Republic and paid to Republic. The two streams the curb never takes are electronics and household chemicals, and for those the City hosts a free recycling day in the spring and fall while Hamilton County runs a permanent drop off center in Noblesville where televisions carry a small fee.

Citywide weekly trash collection

Accepted with preparation

Every incorporated Fishers residence is in the citywide collection contract, with waste collected weekly and recycling every other week on the same service day.

City cost & eligibility
$17.33 for the published 2026 monthly trash rate, which the City adds as a line item to the monthly utility bill sent to the deeded property owner rather than billing through the hauler. Residences incorporated within the City of Fishers that are part of the citywide waste collection program. The bill includes up to three bins in any combination of trash and recycling, and a household that will be away for more than eight weeks can pause trash service and its billing while the sewer and stormwater charges continue.
When & how
Trash weekly and recycling every other week, both on the designated service day for the address, which the City publishes on a service day map. A major holiday falling on a weekday delays collection routes by one day for the rest of that week.
Get it ready
All weekly solid waste and yard waste has to fit completely inside the bins with the lids closed, and the household receives two standard 96 gallon containers for solid waste with a 65 gallon option available on request. Recycling takes cardboard, newspaper, other paper products, aluminum and metal cans, plastic bottles, containers and jugs, and glass bottles. Extra trash that will not fit needs a bag tag, and bin changes, additional recycling bins or a bin modification go through the hauler.

Large and bulk item pickup

Accepted with preparation

A large or bulky item is collected as a special pickup scheduled with the hauler and paid to the hauler directly.

City cost & eligibility
$25 for the published special pickup fee for a large or bulk item, paid directly to the hauler rather than added to the City utility bill. Fishers households in the citywide collection program. The pickup is scheduled through the hauler by phone or on its website, and the household pays the hauler directly.
When & how
By arrangement through the hauler rather than on the regular route, so the item stays put until the pickup is scheduled and confirmed.
Get it ready
Describe the item when the pickup is scheduled, since the fee covers a special collection rather than an unlimited load, and keep it out of the bins when the lids will not close. A mattress is refused at the City recycling event, so bedding needs this special pickup or another confirmed route rather than a spot beside the cart.
Internet Archive capture of the City citywide trash services page with the monthly rate, the container rules, the yard waste allowance, the bag tags, the bulk item fee and the holiday delayInternet Archive capture of the City recycling page with the Republic Services contract, the recycling container and the City Recycling Day accepted and refused lists

Mattresses and box springs

Special rules apply

Mattresses are refused at the City recycling event and are not named in the curbside service, so the piece is confirmed with the hauler before it goes out.

City cost & eligibility
The City publishes a special pickup fee for a large or bulk item and lists mattresses among the material the recycling event refuses, but it does not name bedding in the weekly service. Confirm with the hauler whether the mattress is accepted as a special pickup, what it costs and how it should be prepared.
When & how
Through a scheduled special pickup if the hauler confirms the item, rather than on the weekly route or at the City recycling event.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress dry and wrapped so the crew can lift it, and do not leave it beside the cart on a guess, because a special pickup is a scheduled collection and the City recycling event refuses bedding outright.

Appliances and cooling units

Accepted with preparation

Appliances are accepted at the free City recycling day, and a refrigerator or freezer can also go to the county center once it is empty inside.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Fishers residents at the free City Recycling Day held in the spring and fall, where appliances are named in the accepted list. Hamilton County residents may also drop off refrigerators, freezers, dehumidifiers and window air conditioners at the county household hazardous waste center free of charge, provided the unit is completely empty inside, and small kitchen appliances are accepted there as well.
When & how
At the City Recycling Day on its published spring or fall date, or at the county center on Tuesdays through Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., closed Sunday, Monday and county holidays.
Get it ready
Empty the unit completely, which the county requires for anything that holds refrigerant, and keep it out of the curbside bins, which must close. The City recycling event refuses wood and mattresses but names appliances, computers and metals among what it takes.
Internet Archive capture of the City recycling page with the Republic Services contract, the recycling container and the City Recycling Day accepted and refused listsHamilton County materials accepted page with the electronics, refrigerant appliance, tire, battery and lamp lists and the wood and yard waste exclusions

Televisions, computers and electronics

Accepted with preparation

Electronics are free at the City recycling day in spring and fall, and the county center takes them year round with a published fee for televisions.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Fishers residents at the free City Recycling Day, which accepts computers and monitors, gaming systems, printers with cartridges and toners, cell phones, televisions and VCRs, stereos, keyboards and mice, speakers, wiring and metals. Hamilton County residents may also use the county household hazardous waste center free of charge, except that televisions carry a published per television fee there, and the event is exclusive to Fishers residents with no business material accepted.
When & how
At the City Recycling Day on its published spring or fall date, typically on a Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at a city park, or at the county center on Tuesdays through Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., closed Sunday and Monday.
Get it ready
Bring the device intact and keep it out of the curbside bins. The City event is run by a technology recycler and also takes electronics with household items and hazardous waste in one trip, while the county center requires a sorted load in a box or container and refuses material that is bagged, spilling or leaking. Erase personal data before a device leaves the house.

Construction and remodeling material

Special rules apply

Wood is refused at the City recycling day and lumber at the county center, so a renovation load has to be confirmed with a hauler.

City cost & eligibility
Neither the City curbside service nor the City recycling day covers construction material, and the county center refuses lumber and wood of any kind, so confirm the material, the receiving site and the price with the hauler before the load is staged.
When & how
By arrangement with a hauler or receiving site rather than on the weekly collection day, since the City service covers solid waste and yard waste only.
Get it ready
Keep construction material out of the curbside bins, the recycling toter and the City recycling day, all of which exclude it. Untreated wood and yard waste are directed to a private composting site in Noblesville by the county, and treated or painted wood is not accepted there either, so a project load needs a hauler or a transfer station.
Internet Archive capture of the City recycling page with the Republic Services contract, the recycling container and the City Recycling Day accepted and refused listsHamilton County materials accepted page with the electronics, refrigerant appliance, tire, battery and lamp lists and the wood and yard waste exclusions

Exercise and workout equipment

Accepted with preparation

Workout equipment is named in the City recycling day accepted list, so a machine has a free local route rather than only a hauler pickup.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Fishers residents at the free City Recycling Day held in the spring and fall, where workout equipment is named in the accepted list along with appliances, computers, metals and lawnmowers. The event takes no business material and refuses wood, mattresses, foam, glass, grease, plastic and general trash.
When & how
At the City Recycling Day on its published spring or fall date, typically a Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at a city park, so a machine waits for the next event unless the hauler takes it sooner.
Get it ready
Take the machine down as far as it comes apart so it loads easily, keep loose weights with the frame rather than loose in a vehicle, and confirm the event date before hauling. A machine that is not accepted there can still be handled as a paid special pickup with the hauler.

Yard waste and branches

Accepted with preparation

Yard waste rides the weekly collection on the same day as trash, with an extra 20 bag allowance in April and November and strict bagging and bundling rules.

City cost & eligibility
$17.33 for the published 2026 monthly trash rate, which covers weekly collection of solid waste and yard waste on the City utility bill. Residences incorporated within the City of Fishers in the citywide collection program, which receive weekly solid waste and yard waste collection under the contract with the hauler.
When & how
Every week on the same day as the trash collection. In April and November the hauler takes an extra 20 bags of yard waste or leaves per pickup from each household, and a major holiday on a weekday delays the route by one day for the rest of that week.
Get it ready
Everything has to fit in the bin with the lid closed, and any extra bags go beside the container rather than loose at the curb, because loose piles of leaves are not collected. Use paper lawn and leaf bags or black heavy duty plastic bags, and never put yard waste in the recycling bin. Branches and twigs go in bundles of about three feet by three feet that are tied and light enough for the driver to lift.
Internet Archive capture of the City citywide trash services page with the monthly rate, the container rules, the yard waste allowance, the bag tags, the bulk item fee and the holiday delay

Paint, chemicals and hazardous waste

Not on the regular city route

Household chemicals never go in the bins and go free to the City recycling day or the county center in Noblesville.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Fishers residents at the free City Recycling Day, which accepts all paint types, liquid acids and bases, toxic solids, motor oil, propane tanks in gas grill size only, fire extinguishers and corrosives along with household items and electronics. Hamilton County residents may also use the county household hazardous waste center free of charge, where households are exempt from hazardous waste generator rules and a sorted load in a box or container is expected.
When & how
At the City Recycling Day on its published spring or fall date, or at the county center at 1717 Pleasant Street in Noblesville on Tuesdays through Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., closed Sunday, Monday and county government holidays.
Get it ready
Keep chemicals, paint, motor oil and propane out of the trash bins and the recycling toter, and bring them sorted in a box or container rather than in a trash bag. The county refuses anything that is bagged, spilling, leaking or otherwise unsafe, and it caps tires at five per week, requires rechargeable batteries rather than alkaline, and takes sharps only in an approved container.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

Everything has to fit with the lid closed

Fishers provides two standard 96 gallon containers for solid waste and allocates up to three bins in any combination of trash and recycling, but every week's material has to fit completely inside with the lids closed. Anything that does not fit needs either a bag tag bought from the City or a scheduled special pickup from the hauler.

Internet Archive capture of the City citywide trash services page with the monthly rate, the container rules, the yard waste allowance, the bag tags, the bulk item fee and the holiday delay

Trash weekly, recycling every other week

The two streams do not run on the same frequency. Solid waste and yard waste are collected weekly, while recycling runs every other week on the same designated service day, so the recycling toter waits a fortnight between pickups and a household that overfills it should adjust the bin mix rather than set material outside.

Electronics and chemicals use the event and county windows

The City hosts a free recycling day in the spring and fall where residents bring electronics, household items and household hazardous waste in one trip, with paper recycling and confidential shredding on hand and wood, mattresses, foam, glass, grease, plastic and general trash refused. The Hamilton County center at 1717 Pleasant Street in Noblesville takes the same categories year round with a published fee per television.

A weekday holiday pushes the route a day

When a major holiday falls on a weekday, collection routes shift one day later for the remainder of that week, so the designated service day for the address moves as well. The holidays in that group are New Year's Day, Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Extra trash bag tags

A household with a bag or two of trash that will not fit in the bin on the collection day.

Cost & conditions
$2.5 for the published price of a single extra trash bag tag bought at the City Services Building. Fishers households in the citywide program, who may buy tags in person on weekdays or have the charge added to the next utility invoice when every account is current.
Arrange it
Buy the tag at the City Services Building on Municipal Drive during weekday business hours, attach it to the extra bag, and set the bag out with the rest of the collection.

A tag covers an extra bag rather than a bulky item, so anything too large for a bag or a bin still needs the hauler's special pickup.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Fishers works through one citywide contract, so a household starts by confirming its service day and then fitting everything into the bins with the lids closed. Republic Services collects solid waste and yard waste weekly and recycling every other week, and the household may hold up to three bins in any mix of trash and recycling. Anything that will not fit takes one of two paths: a bag tag bought from the City for an extra bag, or a special pickup scheduled with the hauler and paid to the hauler for a large or bulky item. Yard waste gets an extra 20 bag allowance in April and November and is otherwise limited to what fits in the bin, with branches bundled separately. Electronics, appliances, workout equipment, paint, propane, motor oil and fire extinguishers are the streams the curb never takes, and both a free City recycling day in spring and fall and the Hamilton County household hazardous waste center at 1717 Pleasant Street in Noblesville take them, with the county open four days a week plus Saturday mornings and charging only for televisions. Prices, timing and the details that matter at your address.

How much does pickup cost?

Choose your items to see the exact price. A standard sofa is $79 first and $29 additional. The highest first-item price applies once; every remaining item uses its additional-item price. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Review any applicable sales tax and the final total before payment.

Can I book a pickup for today?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup, where available. Choose from the dates shown at checkout. Your booking is for a pickup day, and we text you when your hauler is on the way.

Do my items need to be outside when I book?

You can book while your items are still inside. Arrange any indoor carrying and have everything outside and accessible according to your confirmation. We load and haul it away from there. Contact us before booking if your property has restricted access.

How do I schedule a bulky item pickup?

Contact the hauler by phone or through its website for a special pickup and pay the published fee directly to the hauler. The City keeps the monthly trash charge on the utility bill, but a large or bulk item is a separate special collection rather than part of the weekly service.Official guidance

Where do appliances go?

To the City Recycling Day in the spring or fall, which is free for Fishers residents and names appliances in its accepted list, or to the Hamilton County household hazardous waste center in Noblesville, which takes refrigerators, freezers, dehumidifiers and window air conditioners free once they are completely empty inside.Official guidance

Where do televisions and computers go?

To the free City Recycling Day in the spring or fall, which takes computers, monitors, printers, cell phones, televisions, VCRs, stereos, speakers, wiring and metals for Fishers residents. The Hamilton County center in Noblesville also takes electronics year round, with a published fee per television.Official guidance

What is refused at the City recycling day?

Wood, mattresses, foam containers and foam peanuts, glass, grease, plastic and general trash, all of which have to be taken back by the resident. The event is also limited to Fishers residents, so material from a business is not accepted even when it is otherwise eligible.Official guidance

Where do paint and chemicals go?

To the free City Recycling Day in the spring or fall, which accepts all paint types, acids and bases, toxic solids, motor oil, propane tanks in gas grill size only, fire extinguishers and corrosives. The Hamilton County center at 1717 Pleasant Street in Noblesville also takes household chemicals free year round during its posted hours.Official guidance

How should chemicals be packaged?

Sorted in a box or container rather than in a trash bag. The county does not accept material that is bagged, spilling, leaking or a safety hazard, and it limits tires to five per week, takes rechargeable batteries but not alkaline ones, and requires sharps in an approved container.Official guidance

Who collects the waste in Fishers?

The hauler on the citywide contract does the collection, while the City bills for it. All residences incorporated within the City of Fishers are part of the citywide waste collection program, billing runs through Fishers Utilities on 317-595-3140, and bin changes, missed pickups and special pickups all go through the hauler.Official guidance

How do I find my collection day?

Use the City's service day map and enter the address to confirm that collection is provided and which day it falls on, or open the printable garbage and recycling map. Trash and yard waste come weekly and recycling comes every other week, both on that same designated day.Official guidance

What if I cannot move the bins?

The City runs a special needs service for residents who are physically unable to walk the bins to the curb. Complete the form or call Fishers Utilities on 317-595-3140, and the request flags the account so the collection driver moves the bins from the top of the driveway to the truck and returns them empty.Official guidance

How can I pay the trash charge?

The trash charge is a line item on the combined monthly utility bill, payable by mail with a check, by phone with a credit card for a per transaction fee, online by credit card or e-check at the published rates, through a bank's bill pay service, or in cash at the City Services Building on Municipal Drive during weekday business hours.Official guidance

Do I have to register before the county center?

Advanced registration is encouraged but not required, and the county states that residents are not refused for failing to register. Registering shows the opening hours, the drop off location and the procedures, and the center asks that the load arrive sorted in a box or container rather than loose or bagged.Official guidance
