The local disposal guide
Republic Services runs Gary's weekly curbside garbage collection and one bulk item rides with each weekly pickup at no separate charge, so most large items leave the curb on the regular service day rather than by appointment. The city adds two self-haul dump sites where a Gary address gets up to three pickup-truck loads a month, a recycling program that moved to every-other-week collection on July 1, 2026, electronics that are accepted only as a drop-off at 900 Madison Street, and a Lake County household hazardous waste program that takes paint, solvents, poisons, sharps and waste fuels at mobile collection sites.
