Mattress & bed removal in Oak LawnCity collection Mattresses and box springs are the first examples the Village guide gives for bulky items, so a bed goes out on the same weekly collection day as the rest of the refuse at no extra charge while it weighs under 50 pounds. A heavier mattress or a set left with the frame has to be arranged with the hauler in advance. No charge. Covered by the quarterly refuse service the Village bills, because the Village guide lists mattresses and box springs among the bulky items collected at no additional charge on the regular collection day when they weigh under 50 pounds.

The local disposal guide
Oak Lawn runs one weekly curbside collection for the whole village through Flood Brothers Disposal, which took over the route on October 1, 2025. Refuse, recycling and yard waste all go out the same day, and the Village bills the service quarterly while the hauler bills additional carts and special collections directly. The Village guide sets the bulky item line at 50 pounds: mattresses, box springs, small tables, chairs and other small furniture under that weight ride the regular refuse day at no extra charge. Anything heavier, plus appliances, televisions, electronics, tires and household chemicals, has to be scheduled with Flood Brothers ahead of time, and contractor debris is left to the contractor rather than the collection route.

A heavy sofa, a loaded dresser or anything else over that line drops out of the free bulk route and has to be scheduled with Flood Brothers before it will be collected.
Mattresses and box springs are the first examples the Village guide gives for bulky items, so a bed goes out on the same weekly collection day as the rest of the refuse at no extra charge while it weighs under 50 pounds. A heavier mattress or a set left with the frame has to be arranged with the hauler in advance.
Appliances are white goods and sit outside the free bulk route. The Village guide names refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dishwashers, water heaters, washers and dryers, prices them per appliance, asks that doors come off refrigerators and freezers, and has the hauler remove refrigerant and recycle the unit after collection.
Televisions and electronics are not part of the weekly cart. Flood Brothers runs a scheduled electronics pickup that covers up to ten items at a time with a single television allowed in that load, and the appointment has to be booked at least 24 hours in advance.
Construction and demolition material is not part of the Village collection service. The Village states that neither the Village nor Flood Brothers is responsible for collecting debris generated by contractors and that removing it is the contractor's job, while a household with its own project or a large move out load can contract a special collection or a temporary container with Flood Brothers directly.
Exercise equipment is not named in the Village guide or on the hauler's Oak Lawn page, so the 50 pound bulky item line is what decides it. The guide's examples are mattresses, box springs, small tables, chairs and other small furniture, which fits a folding bench or a set of hand weights, while a treadmill, an elliptical or a weight rack goes over that line and has to be scheduled and priced by the hauler.
Bulky items under 50 pounds are collected on the regular refuse day at no additional charge, and the Village guide names mattresses, box springs, small tables, chairs and other small furniture as examples. Anything heavier, or anything beyond what the cart holds, has to be arranged with the hauler, and tires and Christmas trees follow their own yearly and priced routes.
Tires are a separate priced item rather than part of the bulky load. The Village guide lists them alongside appliances, with the pickup booked through Flood Brothers in advance.
Household chemicals never go into a cart. The Village guide routes paint, pesticides, poison, cleaning solvents, oil, gasoline and other automotive fluids to a scheduled Flood Brothers collection that is priced per item and booked at least 24 hours ahead.
The handoff matters
Refuse, recycling and yard waste are collected on the same day, once a week, Monday through Friday between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m., and the Village guide asks for material at the curb after 5 p.m. the day before but before 6 a.m. on the collection day. Your collection time may differ from the previous hauler's, so the curb window matters. Six holidays delay the rest of that week by one day: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Oak Lawn Matters special edition waste guide for the Flood Brothers contract, with the item level rules: bulk items under 50 pounds at no additional charge, appliances and tires priced per item, electronics with the ten item and single television limit, household hazardous waste priced per item, extra cart rentals, quarterly Village billing and the special collection clause for construction and move out debrisFlood Brothers Disposal Oak Lawn service page with the single family and two unit service description, the weekly bulk item rule at no additional charge for items under 50 pounds, the named examples, the white goods recycling process and the special collection and temporary container optionsAnything that does not fit the refuse cart has to be bagged or placed in a container no larger than 33 gallons and no heavier than 50 pounds, and containers must be watertight, non-corrodible, and fitted with handles and a lid. Overloaded bags are not collected, and recycling belongs in the green cart only, because material left in other containers is treated as refuse. A household that regularly runs over can rent an additional cart from Flood Brothers, and yard waste runs the first full week of April through the end of the second week in December with a three cart limit.
