Two views of the same room corner: a treadmill on the left, and a small desk and chair in its place on the right.
A new use for the same space, once the old machine is outside and gone.

Room for what comes next

Your space can have a new purpose.

A home office. Room for a guest. A little more floor to enjoy. When an old machine is in the way, a clear pickup plan makes the next step easier.

The room is changing.

Book the equipment you are ready to let go of, whether it is one exercise bike or several machines. See the total before making the plan.

A replacement is coming.

Check whether your retailer includes removal. If the old treadmill is still your responsibility, give it a pickup day of its own.

It is not making the move.

Settle the price online, arrange to have it outside, and follow the pickup through text updates and completion photos. One less thing to coordinate before the keys change hands.

Match the machine

The right choice covers the right equipment.

Choose by the type of equipment. A brand name does not mean a different item, but a walking pad and a full treadmill do.

Treadmill, walking pad or commercial model?

Household treadmill includes folding home models with a tall console. Choose Walking pad for a compact under-desk model, or Commercial treadmill for a large gym machine. All equipment opens those choices.

An exercise bike, elliptical or rower

Spin, upright, recumbent and air bikes all use Exercise bike, including Peloton and other brands. One elliptical includes its connected base, handles and pedals. Rowing machines and Pilates reformers have their own choices.

Weights, racks and benches

Add together the pounds of loose dumbbells, kettlebells, plates and barbells. Free weights are priced in 10 lb units, rounding the combined weight up. For example, 25 lb uses three units. Add a stand, rack or bench separately if it is going too.

Plan the move outside before pickup day.

A machine can be too heavy or awkward for a solo move. Arrange suitable help for indoor carrying, stairs or any dismantling needed to reach the outdoor pickup spot.

A pickup day is not an exact arrival window. Tell us before booking about a shared loading area, restricted outdoor access or equipment whose size or setup you are unsure how to select.

Exercise equipment

Special rules apply

Exercise equipment is not named on the City pages, so it is booked as bulky material and the household should confirm the item and the loading charge first.

City cost & eligibility
The City publishes the bulky pick-up for household items, construction debris and brush with the charge measured by loading time, but it does not name exercise equipment, so call customer service on 913-971-9311 to confirm the item before booking.
When & how
Confirm the item on 913-971-9311, then book the bulk pick-up for the household's trash day and set the machine within eight feet of the curb before 7 a.m.
Get it ready
Keep the machine clear of utilities, poles, trees, sidewalks and gutters, keep it out of the trash cart, and remove any part that will not be collected so the pile is not refused.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

Carts at the curb before 7 a.m. and back in by the next afternoon

Trash carts go to the curb before 7 a.m. on the designated collection day with the arrows pointing toward the street and three feet of space around each cart, and everything has to fit inside the cart. Recycling is collected every other week on the same day as the trash and follows the same cart rules, loose material stays loose inside the cart, containers are rinsed, mixed paper stays dry, boxes are flattened or cut down to four feet by two feet, and carts come back in by 5 p.m. the day after collection and are stored in a garage or beside the residence the rest of the time.

Bulk items go out the evening before the booked trash day

A bulk waste pick-up happens on the household's scheduled trash collection day, so items sit within eight feet of the curb no earlier than 5 p.m. the day before and no later than 7 a.m. on the day itself. The pile has to stay clear of utilities, power poles, trees, sidewalks, traffic lanes and gutters, yard waste has to be a separate pile, and the City collects the material mechanically with equipment designed for large furniture and appliances and states that it is not responsible for damage to landscaping, trees or driveways.

Yard waste is collected separately every week

Yard waste is collected weekly on the regular trash day and is kept separate from the trash. Grass clippings, leaves and small plant trimmings go in compostable paper yard waste bags or the City yard cart, plastic bags are prohibited, and limbs and brush have to be under four inches in diameter, under four feet in length and tied in bundles with string or twine weighing under fifty pounds. Sod, soil, landscaping rock and treated lumber such as fence posts, landscaping timbers and wood pallets are prohibited, holiday trees have to have their plastic bags, ornaments, tinsel and lights removed, and anything larger than the limb limit goes to the Community Recycling Center or onto a booked bulk pick-up.

City of Olathe Utility Services, trash recycling and yard waste division

Book a bulky item pick-up on the trash day

A household with furniture, a mattress, an appliance, construction debris or brush that will not fit in the carts.

Cost & conditions
From $25 for minimum charge for a household bulky pick-up, billed for each fifteen minutes of loading time, with the published annual schedule rising after the fourth and again after the eighth pick-up in a year, and a separate higher schedule for a pick-up booked outside the normal trash day. City of Olathe residential trash customers, who book through the online utility account under Manage Services or by calling 913-971-9311.
Arrange it

The charge is measured by loading time rather than by the item, the rate rises with the number of pick-ups in a year, a pick-up outside the normal trash day costs more, and rock, dirt, concrete, bricks, asphalt, household hazardous waste, retailer containers and bagster bags are not accepted.

Will you dismantle my treadmill or carry it out of the basement?

Dropcurb pickup starts outside. Arrange indoor carrying, stairs and any dismantling needed to get your equipment out before pickup. Check the moving instructions for your exact model and arrange suitable help. We load and haul away the equipment from an accessible outdoor spot.

Which option covers a Peloton, spin bike or recumbent bike?

Choose Exercise bike for one stationary bike, including spin, upright, recumbent and air bikes. Peloton and other brands use the same stationary-bike choice. A treadmill, walking pad and outdoor bicycle are different items, so select their matching options.

How do I get rid of a treadmill?

Treat it as a bulky item and call customer service on 913-971-9311 to confirm it first, because exercise equipment is not named on the City pages. Once confirmed, the pick-up is booked on the household's trash day through the online utility account or by phone and is charged by the loading time with a published minimum.Official guidance
