Treadmill, walking pad or commercial model?
Household treadmill includes folding home models with a tall console. Choose Walking pad for a compact under-desk model, or Commercial treadmill for a large gym machine. All equipment opens those choices.
An exercise bike, elliptical or rower
Spin, upright, recumbent and air bikes all use Exercise bike, including Peloton and other brands. One elliptical includes its connected base, handles and pedals. Rowing machines and Pilates reformers have their own choices.
Weights, racks and benches
Add together the pounds of loose dumbbells, kettlebells, plates and barbells. Free weights are priced in 10 lb units, rounding the combined weight up. For example, 25 lb uses three units. Add a stand, rack or bench separately if it is going too.

Exercise equipment is not named in the county large item answer, and the ReStore states plainly that it does not accept exercise equipment. A treadmill or a weight machine is therefore a confirmation rather than a routine pickup, even though the machine is usually metal.

No exercise machine rate is published. Call the Shawnee County Solid Waste Department at 785.233.4774 and describe the machine, because a metal item goes on a scheduled appointment with a minimum charge and the free weekly large item list does not name exercise equipment.
When & how
Call first, then set the machine out only if the department confirms it for the metal item appointment. The free large item goes out with the refuse before 7 am on the regular refuse day, but it does not name exercise equipment.
Get it ready
Take the console off the frame, strip the machine down as far as it comes apart, and remove or tape any battery pack. Keep it clear of the recycling cart, which needs three feet of clearance on all sides so the collection arm can reach it.
Refuse, recycling and the large item are all out by 7 am
The county asks for refuse and recycling at the collection point before 7:00 AM on the service day, and the one allowed large item goes out beside the cart on the same morning. Refuse is collected every week and recycling every other week, on the red or blue week the address lookup resolves. Trucks photograph addresses without carts and do not return before the next scheduled day.
The recycling cart goes to the curb or alley facing the street with at least three feet of clearance on all sides so the collection arm can reach it. Anything left outside the cart is handled as trash, bagged items are not accepted in the recycling cart, and a cart holding anything other than the accepted plastics 1, 2 and 5, metal and paper is not emptied.
