A dresser, coffee table and dining chair stand outside an open doorway while a sofa remains inside the room.
Just the pieces that are leaving, ready outside.

A few pieces, one pickup

Your room has changed. The old furniture can go.

The desk you no longer use. The dresser that doesn’t fit the new layout. The chairs left over after a move. Choose the pieces you’re done with and give them a pickup day, without arranging a quote visit.

Different pieces. One clear total.

Choose each piece

A table and four chairs are five items.

You don’t need to guess how much space your furniture fills in a truck. Match each piece to the catalog, then add its quantity. Your total updates as you go.

Tables and chairs

Choose the table, then add each chair separately. Coffee tables, side tables and dining tables have their own options. A large or substantially heavy table has a different choice.

Dressers and mirrors

Match the dresser’s overall size. Add a separate dresser mirror as its own item if it is leaving too. Empty drawers and keep the belongings you want before moving the dresser outside.

Desks and bookshelves

Choose by construction, not height alone. A basic desk is different from a heavy desk with a substantial body. A tall, lightweight bookcase can still be a standard bookshelf. Empty it first.

Couches, sofas and household furniture

Accepted with preparation

A couch or sofa and household furniture are named in the county large item answer, which is the pickup that runs with the regular refuse day at no separate charge. One large item is accepted a week on non holiday weeks, and a sofa sleeper counts once the metal springs are removed and scheduled on their own.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Households on Shawnee County Solid Waste refuse service, which is billed monthly and includes the weekly large item rather than selling it as a separate pickup.
When & how
Put the furniture at the collection point with the refuse before 7 am on the regular refuse day, which stays the same every week. Bulky items and extra bags are suspended during the weeks the county observes a holiday, so a holiday week waits for the following refuse day.
Get it ready
Keep the load to one large item a week and outside the carts. Cut and tie anything that comes apart, such as boards or carpet, into bundles no longer than four feet and 18 inches in diameter. If the piece is metal or has a metal frame, call the department before setting it out, because metal items are scheduled by appointment instead of riding along with the refuse.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

Refuse, recycling and the large item are all out by 7 am

The county asks for refuse and recycling at the collection point before 7:00 AM on the service day, and the one allowed large item goes out beside the cart on the same morning. Refuse is collected every week and recycling every other week, on the red or blue week the address lookup resolves. Trucks photograph addresses without carts and do not return before the next scheduled day.

Give the recycling cart three feet of clearance

The recycling cart goes to the curb or alley facing the street with at least three feet of clearance on all sides so the collection arm can reach it. Anything left outside the cart is handled as trash, bagged items are not accepted in the recycling cart, and a cart holding anything other than the accepted plastics 1, 2 and 5, metal and paper is not emptied.

Liquids stay out and sharps get a hard container

No liquids go in the refuse cart. Used needles and sharps go into an empty hard plastic container with a tight fitting lid, such as a laundry detergent or bleach bottle rather than a milk jug or a red biohazard container, with the lid taped and the contents written on the outside. Containers filled with sharps, and any hazardous material, belong at the Household Hazardous Waste Facility on NE 46th St.

Cut and tie anything long before it goes out

A personal container has to hold no more than 32 gallons, have handles, and weigh no more than 65 pounds, and the county supplies carts for households that do not want to use their own.

Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Furniture removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Topeka.

How much does furniture removal cost in Topeka?

Choose the type and size of each piece to see its price. For example, a medium dresser is $79 as the first item or $29 as an additional item. Your total starts with the highest first-item price in your selection, then uses the additional-item price for every other item. Review the complete total and any applicable tax before payment.

Can I get same-day furniture pickup in Topeka?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup and choose from the dates shown at checkout. Arrange to have the furniture outside according to your confirmation. You receive a text when your hauler is on the way and photos after collection.

Will you remove furniture from inside my apartment?

Dropcurb starts outside. You arrange indoor carrying, including any interior stairs or elevator trip. We load and take away the furniture from an accessible outdoor location. Check your building’s rules and plan the route out before booking.

Can you take several different furniture items in one pickup?

Yes. Add each piece and its quantity to one booking. A dining table and four chairs are five items; a separate mirror is not included with a dresser. You can mix eligible items from different rooms and review their combined total before paying.

Do I need to take furniture apart before pickup?

You arrange any disassembly needed to move the furniture out of your home and into an accessible outdoor pickup spot. Dropcurb does not provide indoor disassembly or carrying. If you are unsure which catalog choice matches a dismantled or unusual piece, send a photo and ask before booking.

Does Topeka pick up a couch or sofa at the curb?

Yes. A couch or sofa is named in the county large item answer, and that pickup runs with the regular refuse day. One large item is accepted a week on non holiday weeks, and a sofa sleeper counts only after the metal springs are removed, with the springs then scheduled separately by phone. Metal items as a group are handled by appointment rather than going out automatically.Official guidance

Who handles trash and large item pickup in Topeka?

The Shawnee County Solid Waste Department. The department serves the county whose seat is Topeka, supplies the carts, bills the monthly refuse service and runs the weekly large item pickup. The office is at 1515 NW Saline St, Suite 225 in Topeka and the number is 785.233.4774. The City of Topeka programs page routes trash and recycling questions to the same county department.Official guidance

Are large items picked up during holiday weeks?

No. The county states that bulky items and yard waste are not picked up during holiday weeks, and the new customer packet adds that extra bags are suspended as well. Those weeks also move the collection day for the households on the affected route, so the holiday schedule the department publishes is what settles the day for that week.Official guidance

Which items need an appointment instead of going out with the refuse?

Metal items. The county says metal items are picked up by calling the office at 785.233.4774 to schedule and that the service carries a minimum charge, which sits apart from the free weekly large item covering mattresses, a couch or sofa, household furniture, yard waste bags and bundled limbs or carpet. A washer, dryer, stove, water heater or treadmill is a metal item for this purpose, and so is a refrigerator or air conditioner.Official guidance
