The local disposal guide
Quincy runs its own waste and recycling division, and weekly curbside trash and recycling is provided for one- to eight-family dwellings and condominiums through Capitol Waste Services. Bulky material has its own allowance of two items a week, with sofas, chairs, recliners and lawn furniture named, and appliances, televisions, monitors and computer equipment are collected curbside when the resident calls ahead. Mattresses moved to a separate booked service through South Shore Recycle and are no longer taken on the regular trash day. Everything the curb will not take goes to the residents-only DPW Yard at 55 Sea Street, which takes yard waste, single stream recycling, scrap metal, appliances, electronics, books and mercury items but is not a landfill and refuses household trash, wood, tires, paints and construction debris. Household hazardous material waits for one of the city's two yearly drop-off days, and construction and demolition debris has to go to a private hauler or one of the two named stations outside the city.

The handoff matters
Trash and recycling must be ready by 7:00 AM on the collection day, nothing may be placed out more than one day before the collection, and empty containers have to be removed within one day of pickup. Keep the container near 32 gallons, because the collectors are not required to lift anything over 50 lbs, and remember that a holiday in the week pushes that day and every remaining collection day that week back by one day.
